I am a Ph.D. student at the Center for Language and Cognition Groningen (CLCG) and the Behavioral and Cognitive Neurosciences Center (BCN) at the University of Groningen (RUG). My project is part of the NWO-funded Vidi project The Communicative Frame: Linguistic Forms and Communicative Functions in Discourse awarded to dr. Esther Pascual.

My interest is in language, meaning construction and cognition. I study them within cognitive linguistics because of its integrated approach, which acknowledges the fact that we are inherently intersubjective creatures who live in dynamic, multi-modal environments, equipped with brains which have grown to represent the world in cultural and species-specific ways.

I am particularly interested in how viewpoint is expressed across different modalities and how these modalities point to (linguistic) conceptualization. I find myself particularly drawn to multimodal studies since these suggest core semiotic representations which are expressed complementarily.

I am organizing EMCL6 at Case Western (Cleveland, USA) - August 2012. Come join us!
