Abstract

It is quantitatively demonstrated, that adiabatic polarization and depolarization of OH --dipoles in KCl can be used for paraelectric heating and cooling at low temperatures. A reversible temperature change was measured which depends on T -4 and E 2 in complete agreement with theory. A variation in therise-and decay-time of the electric field shows that the dipole relaxation time is smaller than 10 -7 sec.
