Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Regarding slakr:

Why did my page get deleted?
I have no idea what you're talking about. What's vandalism?
If you received a warning from me and you're not logged in, you might have gotten an old warning I sent to someone who shares your IP address. On the other hand, if you've made recent edits and received a recent warning message from me and you genuinely believe that it's not vandalism, don't fret-- simply drop me a message below, because I could have simply made a silly mistake. :)

Regarding SineBot:

Why does SineBot keep signing stuff I've already signed?
All comments should have a signature that includes both a link to your user page (slakr) and a datestamp (05:12, 20 August 2007 (UTC)) (per signatures - internal links). This is most easily generated by placing four tildes (~~~~) at the end of your contributions, which makes something like "slakr 05:12, 20 August 2007 (UTC)".

If you have an interwiki-linked user page, consider either creating a user page on enwiki that redirects to your preferred home wiki or simply opting out of automatic signing.

If you're still having problems after trying that, post a message below. Be sure to include diffs to make sure I can reference the problem.
I don't want my comments signed by SineBot. How do I get it to ignore me or my talk page?
Please use one of the opt-out methods listed on its user page.
SineBot forgot to sign something it should have signed.
Usually this happens because the bot isn't sure if it really should sign something, so it defaults to not signing it (e.g., in cases of complex edits). It does this to avoid being annoying. Other times, a comment might be made when the bot is down for maintenance, so the bot simply never sees it.
SineBot signed something that it genuinely should not have signed.
Please let me know-- especially if you think it's not a one-time thing. Be sure to include diffs to make sure I can reference the problem.
Is SineBot's source code available?
Not currently.
I'm signing with four tildes (~~~~) but it's still saying I didn't!
You likely enabled raw signatures. Open your preferences, click the "User profile" tab, make sure that "Treat the above as wiki markup" is NOT checked, and click Save; it should be fixed. If you have an interwiki-linked user page, consider either creating a user page on enwiki that redirects to your preferred home wiki or simply opting out of automatic signing.

RfC about the MEK targeting civilians in the lede[edit]

Hi Slakr, thank you for closing the RfC about the MEK targeting civilians in the lede. I have a question about your closing remarks: Since there aren't any sources that conclude that the MEK targeted civilians, and since "analyzing sources and arriving at conclusions is usually not the job of the lead", then should such a major and yet uncertain claim be mentioned in the lede of the article? The body of the article allows for space to discuss this in better detail, but since there isn't a definite conclusion about whether the MEK targeted civilians or not, wouldn't putting this in the lede cause more problems than solve them? SineBot on SqWiki[edit]

Hello, Slakr! :) I'm an admin on the Albanian Wikipedia and I tend to look after the tech side of the project. I saw SineBot's work in action and thought our community could also benefit from it. Is it possible to make it work in our project too? - Klein Muçi (talk) 13:57, 25 September 2019 (UTC)

Sine Bot has stopped adding sign warning on user talk pages.[edit]

That bot is supposed to warn people who forget to sign three times in one day. I tested it, and it doesn't seem to work. I also see three or more unsigned comments for the same user on their contributions multiple times, but there is no following warning, either.Lurking shadow (talk) 19:39, 2 October 2019 (UTC)

I did some more research and this seems to be the last warning post by the bot, and this seems to be the first instance of a third post after that occasion; at that time that feature has ceased to work. I couldn't find any further warnings for the following three years.Lurking shadow (talk) 20:03, 2 October 2019 (UTC)

Cat Stevens.[edit]

It is highly inappropriate to use a bot to revert an article to a non-NPOV state.

If you want to discuss the edits I have posted sample texts to the talk page and that is the proper place to engage. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tanila001 (talkcontribs) 23:13, 3 October 2019 (UTC)

The Parliament of the United Kingdom retains sovereignty (the United Kingdom is a unitary state) and legislates in matters that are not devolved, as well as having the capacity to legislate in areas that are devolved (this does not normally occur, by constitutional convention, without the agreement of the devolved legislature). |-

1. Republic | Israel |In 1947, the United Nations (UN) adopted a Partition Plan for Palestine recommending the creation of independent Arab and Jewish states and an internationalized Jerusalem.[40] The plan was accepted by the Jewish Agency, and rejected by Arab leaders.[41][42][43] The following year, the Jewish Agency declared the independence of the State of Israel, and the subsequent 1948 Arab–Israeli War saw Israel's establishment over most of the former Mandate territory, while the West Bank and Gaza were held by neighboring Arab states.[44] Israel has since fought several wars with Arab countries,[45] and since the Six-Day War in 1967 held occupied territories including the West Bank, Golan Heights and the Gaza Strip (still considered occupied after the 2005 disengagement, although some legal experts dispute this claim).[46][47][48][fn 5] It extended its laws to the Golan Heights and East Jerusalem, but not the West Bank.[49][50][51][52] Israel's occupation of the Palestinian territories is the world's longest military occupation in modern times.[fn 5][54] Efforts to resolve the Israeli–Palestinian conflict have not resulted in a final peace agreement. However, peace treaties between Israel and both Egypt and Jordan have been signed. On 15 November 1988, Yasser Arafat, Chairman of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), in Algiers proclaimed the establishment of the State of Palestine. A year after the signing of the Oslo Accords in 1993, the Palestinian National Authority was formed to govern the areas A and B in the West Bank and Gaza Strip. Gaza would later be ruled by Hamas in 2007, two years after the Israeli withdrawal from Gaza. The State of Palestine is recognized by 137 UN members and since 2012 has a status of a non-member observer state in the United Nations – which implies recognition of statehood.[26][27][28] It is a member of the Arab League, Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, G77, and the International Olympic Committee and other international bodies.
