The 2018 American salmonella outbreak was an American disaster in which over 250 people[1] were sickened by chicken salad contaminated with salmonella. Other outbreaks were confirmed with turkey identified as the cause.


The chicken salad was made by an Iowa-based food processing company Triple T Specialty Meats and distributed in Fareway supermarket.[2] One person in Iowa died, and more than 90 others were hospitalized.[3] At least 48 lawsuits have been filed against Triple-T and Fareway from outbreak victims.[4]

It was reported by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention that since last November 164 people had fallen ill in 35 states due to raw turkey. No products were recalled, and the CDC issued a reminder for individuals to properly cook and handle turkey.[5]
