Guiyang Metro is a metro system in the city of Guiyang, Guizhou province in China operated and branded as Guiyang Urban Rail Transit (GYURT). A short northern section of Line 1 opened on 28 December 2017,[1] with the full line entering operation on 1 December 2018.[2] Line 2 is due to open at the end of 2020 and Line 3 in 2022 or 2023. Line 4 and also lines G1, S1, S2 and S3 are in the planning stage.

Planning[edit]

Line 1 was approved for construction on 6 May 2013, and approved for plan in 2006. This line goes through Guanshanhu, Yunyan, Nanming and Huaxi. The line twice crosses Nanming River and connects the downtown area with a number of outlying districts. The line depots are Xiaohe Depot and Guanshanhu District Depot. The railway electrification system are overhead line and third rail. [3][1]

Network[edit]

As of December 2018 only Line 1 has commenced operation, while the first phase of Line 2 is still under construction.[4] The second Phase of Line 2 started construction on February 28, 2017, adding 12.87 km and 8 stations to Line 2.[5] Line 1 runs northwest to south and Line 2 runs north to southeast. The network will ultimately also include Line 4, S1, S2, S3 and a light rail line G1 which passes through Gui'an International District.

Fares are set by distance traveled, with RMB 6 being the maximum. Children under 1.3 meters ride free, with other children being half-price, though paper children’s tickets need to be bought from the counters as they are not , as of February 2019, yet available from the ticket machines. Those over 70 years old travel free on public transport in Guiyang.
