Igwe basically is a special title or better ways of addressing traditional rulers especially those heading autonomous communities in Igboland. In other words, Igbos attribute the term Igwe to HRH. Igwe can still be defined as a title of respect and honor for the eze or king in Igboland.

Igwe is used as surname by many Igbos as well.
