Welcome![edit]

Hello, GN-z11, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few links to pages you might find helpful:

You may also want to take the Wikipedia Adventure, an interactive tour that will help you learn the basics of editing Wikipedia. You can visit The Teahouse to ask questions or seek help.

Please remember to sign your messages on talk pages by typing four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask for help on your talk page, and a volunteer should respond shortly. Again, welcome! Sorry![edit]

Hey there, I need to apologize: When I reverted you on the Apple Inc. article, I accidentally linked to Computing WikiProject (WP:COMPUTING), but I actually wanted to link the gudeline that is located at MOS:COMPUTING (I mix up WP and MOS all the time, ugh!). Specifically, the corresponding section of that gudeline that includes the www. omittance is located at MOS:WEBADDR. Hope this clears things up. Cheers! Lordtobi () 16:12, 28 September 2017 (UTC)

Does that really need an apology? Accidental links to unrelated articles happen every day here. Plus I learned from you that I violated an article guideline the second I saw that someone reverted my edit. That rarely happens. Anyways I'm the one who should be sorry for making the bigger mistake here, not you. GN-z11 20:04, 28 September 2017 (UTC)

Thanks for uploading File:Bahrain WTC.JPG. The image has been identified as not specifying the copyright status of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. Even if you created the image yourself, you still need to release it so Wikipedia can use it. If you don't indicate the copyright status of the image on the image's description page, using an appropriate copyright tag, it may be deleted some time after the next seven days. If you made this image yourself, you can use copyright tags like {{PD-self}} (to release all rights), {{self|CC-by-sa-3.0|GFDL}} (to require that you be credited), or any tag here - just go to the image, click edit, and add one of those. Ok ok, calm down bot. I got it covered. GN-z11 08:59, 23 February 2018 (UTC)

Hi[edit]

Hi, my name is Hussain and I'm from Bahrain. I'm looking to be a professional editor just like you! and my goal is to show people all around the world how amazing is Bahrain :) and first i will start my own profile page i hope you can help me. BTW I can speak Arabic too. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sayed Hussain (talkcontribs) 15:02, 23 February 2018 (UTC)

Sure, why not? Ask me anything you want. However, I must tell you to read a fair amount of Wikipedia help guidelines before you do anything. First, if you want to ask for help on a talk page, end the message by typing four tildes (~) to include your name (I could have been unable to recognize you if a robot didn't include your name). Wikipedia has tons of guidelines for all kinds of things (including creating your profile page) as well as a manual of style that you must always refer to when editing ANY article. Plus look at the first message on your talk page to learn the basics of Wikipedia. Anyways, I'm happy to meet a new editor and welcome to our community! GN-z11 15:25, 23 February 2018 (UTC)

Your renaming request[edit]

Hello, your account has been renamed too many times and no more renaming will be granted to your account:

  1. 9/2/2018: from Contraption5000 to TechyHalnerd. Reason given: That's my pen name, and I always use it online.
  2. 9/2/2018: from TechyHalnerd to Techy Halnerd. Reason given: I submitted a request earlier, but I meant it to be spaced out. I didn't notice it.
  3. 1/14/2019: from Techy Halnerd to SpecialRelativity4. Reason given: This is my username in a lot of sites and I want my username on Wikipedia to match them
  4. 1/14/2019: (rejected) from SpecialRelativity4 to S5 0014+81. Reason given: I have changed my usernames on multiple social media sites to this one and I want to have it on Wikipedia aswell.
  5. 1/14/2019: (rejected) from SpecialRelativity4 to GN-z11. Reason given: This is my second request but please, I really want my Wikipedia username to match with my other internet accounts. There's no policy that prevents changing usernames a short time after originally changing it. I really don't like the current name.

Please do not ask for a new renaming, all request will be rejected. I am not a number (talk) 13:41, 23 January 2019 (UTC)

Renaming[edit]

Hello,

After discussing with fellow renamers and reading your reply to Yunshui, most of us decided to allow rename to your account on condition that this will be your last renaming. So please take your time and after selecting your username choice, please request again. Also please don't forget to provide an appropriate reason for renaming.

Feel free to ask for any suggestions. Thanks! ‐‐1997kB (talk) 08:11, 30 January 2019 (UTC)

@1997kB: Submitted it. Apologies for being late. GN-z11 10:06, 2 February 2019 (UTC)
SpecialRelativity4, No need for apologies. Processed the request. Happy editing! ‐‐1997kB (talk) 15:44, 2 February 2019 (UTC)

Re 2019–20 Coupe de France Preliminary Rounds, Overseas departments and territories being an orphan page[edit]

Hi, thanks for your review of 2019–20 Coupe de France Preliminary Rounds, Overseas departments and territories. The reason this is currently an orphan is that CASSIOPEIA (talk · contribs) has moved the linking page 2019–20 Coupe de France Preliminary Rounds to Draft due to lack of secondary sources. I think it's only fair to mention this, as it probably means you want to move 2019–20 Coupe de France Preliminary Rounds, Overseas departments and territories to draft as well, for the same reason. Cheers Gricehead (talk) 10:31, 15 February 2019 (UTC)

Hi GN-z11, Just to note the page was moved to draft as only one source provided is considered independent reliable source and the other two are primary which could not contribute to notability requirement for it is WP:TOOSOON. - see conversation here for your reference. Thank you. CASSIOPEIA(talk) 10:37, 15 February 2019 (UTC)
@Gricehead: and @CASSIOPEIA: I tagged the article as orphan and uncategorized using AWB, which usually doesn't show me any info about article's origin/linking page. However, since the linking page has been draftified by CASSIOPEIA, the 2019–20 Coupe de France Preliminary Rounds, Overseas departments and territories article should be draftified as well, as Gricehead mentioned. Rollback granted[edit]

Wikipedia Rollbacker.svg

Hi GN-z11. After reviewing your request for "rollbacker", I have enabled rollback on your account. Keep in mind these things when going to use rollback:

  • Getting rollback is no more momentous than installing Twinkle.
  • Rollback should be used to revert clear cases of vandalism only, and not good faith edits.
  • Rollback should never be used to edit war.
  • If abused, rollback rights can be revoked.
  • Use common sense.

If you no longer want rollback, contact me and I'll remove it. Also, for some more information on how to use rollback, see Wikipedia:Administrators' guide/Rollback (even though you're not an admin). I'm sure you'll do great with rollback, but feel free to leave me a message on my talk page if you run into troubles or have any questions about appropriate/inappropriate use of rollback. Thank you for helping to reduce vandalism. Happy editing! Beeblebrox (talk) 19:13, 3 March 2019 (UTC)

About  [edit]

Hi, thanks for cleaning up several articles that I created recently!
However, may I try to convince you to stop adding the " " between numbers and units of measure?
The only advantage of that " " is to avoid a few occasional "bad" breaks. However, it has a number of disadvantages:
1. It is a markup for purely visual effect. Since its creation, one of the pillars of Wikipedia has been that contents is infinitely more important than form. Editors should be encouraged to make articles informative, rather than pretty. For example, that is why it decided for simple straight quotes (") instead of paired open-close quotes, and straight apostrophes (') instead of various curved and tilted ones. That is also why editors cannot change font styles and sizes. In that spirit, editors should not worry about occasional bad line breaks.
2. Editors who are not computer experts will not know what the " " means. And that includes many editors who are experts in other fields, whose input Wikipedia desperately needs.
3. The " " does not eliminate line breaks; it only shifts them elsewhere. In general, the result of line breaking becomes less satisfactory when the available break positions are reduced. Thus, eliminating a "bad" line break that way may make the text uglier.
4. Optimum line breaking is a task that must be performed by the reader's browser, not by Wikipedia's editors or servers. Ideally the browser should automatically increase the penalty for breaking between a digit and what looks like a unit of measurement. If a browser does not do that, that is a flaw of the browser -- not of Wikipedia and its editors.
5. The " " make the measurements in the wikisource much harder to read and edit.
All the best, --Jorge Stolfi (talk) 23:58, 4 May 2019 (UTC)

WP:CEN is now open![edit]

To all interested parties: Now that it has a proper shortcut, the current events noticeboard has now officially opened for discussion!

WP:CEN came about as an idea I explored through a request for comment that closed last March. Recen research has re-opened the debate on Wikipedia's role in a changing faster-paced internet. Questions of WP:NOTNEWS and WP:Recentism are still floating around. That being said, there are still plenty of articles to write and hopefully this noticeboard can positively contribute to that critical process.

Thank you for your participation in the RFC, and I hope to see you at WP:CEN soon! –MJLTalk 17:11, 26 June 2019 (UTC)
