Hi[edit]

Hi how have you been? Hope you had and are having a happy holidays! I just started doing vandal reversion. I think you might find it interesting. To start out, just hit "Recent changes" at the area on the left, and look for anything that might be a problem. You can filter on "Likely Have Problems", "Very Likely Have Problems", etc. If a particular editor seems to be adding bad content, then it is worth checking out their edit history in case they have been vandalizing a number of articles. It's more interesting than I expected. Some of the vandals are quite clever. If you start getting involved, I can point you to some more advanced tools I just started using that make it easier. --David Tornheim (talk) 01:11, 29 December 2018 (UTC)

Hi there, David, thanks for the good wishes. I hope your new year is the best one yet! Actually your idea does intrigue me. Much of Wikipedia is in a state of disrepair, from what I am noticing. With the massive decrease in editors and the increase in bullying, few are around doing the necessary clean up work (or was it always this bad?). petrarchan47คุ 23:52, 31 December 2018 (UTC)

Hi[edit]

Hi there, I see you're editing the Jetsunma Ahkon Lhamo page. I've been meaning to re-write this page since 2014, but have mostly been batting away vandals. Got burned out on Wiki in 2007 after the Tibet pages were flooded with Chinese editors. Anyways, let's work together to produce a balanced article. Longchenpa (talk)

Hi there @Longchenpa:, I somehow didn't see this message from you until just now. I noticed that your idea of "balanced" doesn't seem to align with mine - I did make a few changes to your edits, as you've probably noticed by now. In general, the article has been hurt by whitewashing and overlooking the seminal piece on the subject, namely "The Buddha from Brooklyn". The book has only been used for "positive" or neutral information but the preponderance of critical content from the book has been left out of Wikipedia. This creates a biased article that looks a bit more like we are promoting the subject rather than writing an encyclopedic article.
Please consider whether you have a potential WP:COI with the subject, by virtue of belonging to her church or something like that? If so it can hinder the process here. For instance it makes a change from "psychic channeler" to 'psychic consultant' seem like a good idea, when to a neutral observer interested in encyclopedic coverage, this change makes no sense and raises red flags.
I would appreciate if you would read WP:COIEDIT. If in fact your interest in the subject is from nothing besides wanting to improve Wikipedia, cool. If you do have a relationship of some sort that would constitute a COI, please disclose this relationship as per the rules, and we can move forward from there. Thank you for understanding! petrarchan47คุ 20:50, 3 March 2019 (UTC)
One additional note, if you do determine that you might fall into the "COI" category, this does not mean you won't be able to work on the article, it would simply mean that you would propose changes on the talk page, and other editors make the changes if they have support. petrarchan47คุ 06:26, 5 March 2019 (UTC)

Jason Leopold NPOV tag[edit]

Hi, i responded to your addition of the NPOV tag and comments at Jason Leopold. Can you let me know what more needs to be done to address your concerns? thanks. Bonewah (talk) 15:24, 23 January 2019 (UTC)

Hi there, I made a note at the talk page. I do think there are some things still missing from the article, but I should be able to add them myself in a bit. petrarchan47คุ 21:08, 24 January 2019 (UTC)

Hi[edit]

I owe you one (not for the comment where you mentioned me but the one just before where you reminded me about the cultural difference in Mother's Day dates)! I looked back through some pages you edited years ago (jps directed me there) and found a cool bee-photo that reminded me of Bee Movie. (Seinfeld) Many thanks for the reminders and the Detroiters tip: I've been sad about the state of comedy too. I'm also delighted tonight because I just discovered our local jazz-fest organizer booked an act I'd suggested to him in passing some months ago. The weekend has definitely ended on a pleasant note! SashiRolls t · c 23:38, 12 May 2019 (UTC)

SashiRolls, it's fabulous to hear this. Half of my family lives in London, I would imagine they've heard of this group. Looks very cool ~ you'll have a really special summer I am betting. Not because of a jazz band but because YOU LIVE IN FRANCE. I do love the Bee Movie too, and am just enamored with them in general. Especially the fuzzy ones. Many blessings to you and your loved ones, and thanks for stopping by ~ petrarchan47คุ 02:24, 13 May 2019 (UTC)

Happy July 1st everyone![edit]

I realize you feel passionately about the subject, but could you please not bludgeon to death WP:BLPN#Sharyl Attkisson (2) (or other discussions)? R2 (bleep) 03:37, 1 July 2019 (UTC)

R2, this is not a fair summary of Petrar's participation.
  • Total - 32
  • Total R2 - 88
  • Total Tao - 88
The behavior at that article by a few editors conflicted by WP:BLPCOI is worthy of AN/I but it's always better to avoid the dramah if we can work things out collegially at the TP where I've noticed bludgeoning and stonewalling, apparently resulting from WP:BLPCOI, but it certainly isn't Petrar. Atsme Talk 📧 12:32, 1 July 2019 (UTC)
I believe R2 is specifically referring to the BLP page. Toa Nidhiki05 13:00, 1 July 2019 (UTC)
Yes, and suggesting that I've engaged in bludgeoning based on total edit count, when I was actively attempting to accommodate Attkisson's requests well before Petrarchan47 or Atsme arrived at the talk page, is ignorant at best. R2 (bleep) 17:43, 1 July 2019 (UTC)
R2, if you and Toa believe I've engaged in anything actionable, take it to the proper noticeboard. I'm going to ask you and Toa to stay off my talk page from here on out. I don't see evidence your contributions here are in good faith. Thank you for understanding, petrarchan47คุ 18:40, 1 July 2019 (UTC)
"bludgeon to death", and "ignorant at best" are PAs, and WP:BLPCOI is a policy violation. Petrar, make note of these behavorial/policy vios because Sharyl Attkisson is under BLP DS as well as FRINGE-PSUEDOSCIENCE DS because of the topic. DS applies even on UTP and article TP. I have asked Doug Weller to process DS alerts wherever they are needed after viewing the edit history. A bit earlier today there was a game of tug o' war going on. All you've done is try to get consensus, and for that, you are insulted and threatened as I have been, simply for doing our jobs as editors working a bit of damage control, and trying to get the article factually accurate. Sad. Atsme Talk 📧 19:00, 1 July 2019 (UTC)
It is Wikipedia at it's finest. As Larry said, they never figured out how to deal with bad actors. The trolls took over a long time ago.
  • "Wikipedia has very few practical constraints about people behaving according to normal rules of politeness and fair dealing. They’ve got a zillion rules, of course — that’s part of the problem — but there is no easy way to rein in the bad actors. And unfortunately the bad tend to drive out the good. A lot of the more sane, sensible people out there are just can’t take too much of it." * petrarchan47คุ 20:49, 1 July 2019 (UTC)
Petrar has indeed repeatedly tried to get consensus... and pretty much every time the consensus has not been what she wanted. Repeatedly doing so on the BLP and RS noticeboards could indeed be considering bludgeoning. Since she wants us off of here that’s all I’ll say. If you have an actual concern, making threats doesn’t help anyone. Toa Nidhiki05 19:12, 1 July 2019 (UTC)
I knew that asking you to stay off my page would be a sure way to get you to respond here again, if indeed you are trolling.
Anyone can visit the Sharyl Attkisson talk page and see that almost never do you or R2 have anyone agreeing with you. The more you show hypocrisy, the less fellow editors will trust your motives and words. petrarchan47คุ 20:49, 1 July 2019 (UTC)
I’ll respect your wish to stay off your page, but you can’t expect to say things here about other people and not have them respond to you. So if you want people to stay off of here, stop talking about them here. Toa Nidhiki05 20:56, 1 July 2019 (UTC)
So we're done now. OK. petrarchan47คุ 20:57, 1 July 2019 (UTC)

July 2019[edit]

Petrarchan, allowances are often made for a user venting under the shock of a block or ban. For my part I never care how nastily a user talks to me me right after I've sanctioned them. But that does not mean the sanctioned party's friends and supporters are free to attack administrators for their attempts to maintain civil discourse in vexed areas such as American politics. I note that you call Awilley's topic ban of Atsme "fascist".[1] It doesn't help that you try to hide behind the popular trope that "some" might call it that. (Oh, those "some", they'll say anything!) If you talk like that again, I will personally block you for personal attacks and poisoning the air we breathe on this project. Bishonen | talk 09:02, 23 July 2019 (UTC).

I can live with those demands. Thanks for issuing a warning first. petrarchan47คุ 17:37, 23 July 2019 (UTC)
At a recent local meet-n-greet for a long serving female State Representative, the Q&A session turned to the new age of American Politics and the noticeable increase in women politicians. "You know what the difference is (?)...", she asked. "It's that women collaborate much better than men. Maybe it's the Sisterhood or that we've grown up co-operating in life. Not sure, but the change is rewarding and noticeable." I have known Petra for many years as a fellow editor of "problem-strewn" articles. BP spill and the like. 2008 Campaign. If she was a politician she would be a member of The Squad, outspoken and strong. I support her as someone whose only contribution to the long-winded WP:Fram fiasco was about "the air we breathe as editors". If we are active in RL talk and in WP talk, sometimes the two cross-over. I don't think Petra meant it as an attack...just as a prevailing social explanation of how she felt. We are victims of our personnas. You, Bish, have smartly created a space, User talk:Bishzilla, where you can blow off steam and say what you feel. Not all of us are so smart. ―Buster7  10:43, 23 July 2019 (UTC)
Buster7, I don't see how any of what you see is relevant to or a justification of an editor calling a topic ban "fascist". There is no way a sane person can say "fascist" without it being an indictment. If one wants to explain how they feel, they should talk about themselves, not about the others, and not by calling them fascist. And for the record, I've been to that Bish-created space, and there's no false accusations of "fascism" there, as far as I know. Drmies (talk) 14:11, 23 July 2019 (UTC)
Hi, Buster7, always good to see you! How's your summer going? petrarchan47คุ 17:37, 23 July 2019 (UTC)
Hi, Petra. my summer is going great. Surviving the heat. Staying on high ground in the rain. Retired now so more free time to travel. Drove to Birch Bay Wash. and into Canada Cascades. Just bought a used golf cart for the Country Estate. Looking to get a second mortgage so we can finally have an inside toilet. Progress is Good! Sorry about all this kerfuffle. I saw you on my watchlist and just dropped in to see what was going on. Jeez! What did you go and do? It must be serious to have two of the best take you to task. anyway. I'm semi-retired here and have not distributed any EotW's for a month. I have not edited the Trump timeline in a month. I was one of the few editors that was trying to keep our reader abreast of all the daily daliences but now its a wasteland. Anyway. Say Hi to G. I'm sure she's around somewhere. TRA!―Buster7  18:25, 23 July 2019 (UTC)
((EC)) I don't know or care to know all the in and outs of your administrative dealings with my friend Petra. I have no idea whom she called fascist or when she did it. I only know that for eight, maybe nine years, we have been faceless friends in the sometimes hostile world of Wikipedia editing. Not for me. Its not hostile for me. I keep my distance from "hot articles. I have never looked for trouble. Have either of you ever been witness to any manner in which I have been less than positive...hard to deal with...irritable? Have I ever come before either of you or any Administrative body or person for any claim of wrongdoing or breaking of the rules? I am just here as a friend of the accused.
As Administrators you have honed your ability to infer that Petra is not a sane person because she calls someone or something Fascist. But you do it in a clever round-about way. You don't outright say it but you mean it. And for the record, I never said or even inferred there was any accusations of fascism at Bishonen humor site. At one time, years ago, I was a frequent visitor there,(friendlystalker I think is the word). My point was that if Petra had a site like that, a separate site that was intended to be more kitchen-table like, chattin' with the girls-like, more campfire like, maybe whatever she said wouldn't be seen as such a Hard Bite. Petra is one of the few friends I have left. I'll be damned if I let her get beat up. ―Buster7  18:08, 23 July 2019 (UTC)
Bish described it already, so here is the actual comment for stalkers and for the record. petrarchan47คุ 18:12, 23 July 2019 (UTC)

Butster quoted his state rep, "You know what the difference is (?)...", she asked. "It's that women collaborate much better than men. Maybe it's the Sisterhood or that we've grown up co-operating in life. Not sure, but the change is rewarding and noticeable." That's so true and I've said it more than once here when trying to explain the difference in how women use talk pages--I've said, "women chat." In my first and only reprimand I almost got barred from woman related articles because I was new as an editor and I thought we were "chatting" on the talk page. I was, what I thought was playfully sarcastic a few times (which were later counted and announced to be three times). I did not make any comments on the ARBCOM page because at that time I had no idea that it was even going on let alone that it involved me. Not one person came to my talk page to ask me if I knew I should present my case. As it turned out I was just one vote short of a ban. I was at first shocked and then felt very hurt and finally very angry, which I had to get over. And it's always seemed ironic to me since I have contributed extensively to women-related articles...for example I an the leading editor of the breast feeding (or maybe it's the pregnancy) article. Atsme, I just logged on to thank Buster and Gandy... feeling overwhelmed with gratitude for their kindness, but without the proper words to express it, i stayed silent too long.
Low and behold Atsme's got me covered (once again).
As for the bird, I'm horrified by my own answer. It turns out I have a serious issue with pride. We'll leave it at that. ;) petrarchan47คุ 00:14, 24 July 2019 (UTC)

Undoing strikeout[edit]

User:Peterchan47 I am undoing the strikeouts in TALK:Fascism#Survey which were done to my and your !votes. Per WP:TALKO "Striking out text (e.g., ...) constitutes a change in meaning, and should only be done by the user who wrote it or as otherwise provided in this talk page guideline." (i.e. of a sock puppet or editor inputs despite being banned). If you wish the strikeout to remain, you may reinstate it freely. Cheers Markbassett (talk) 04:57, 28 July 2019 (UTC)

Markbassett, thank you kindly. I had patterned my iVote after your wording, so was actually planning to move your comment back to "survey" (for several reasons). In my opinion, the behaviour at that talk page and RfC is unlawful and should be taken to a noticeboard. I've been too busy to take things to the next level and was waiting for some of the other long-timers to speak up (even pinged an admin). I am beginning to wonder if Wikipedia has taken a position politically, and now, via some unwritten rule, allows the community to ignore policy and guidelines if they fly in the face of said position. petrarchan47คุ 22:57, 28 July 2019 (UTC)

User:Peterchan47 Well, he struck out yet again and I have unstruck yet again … and said again strikeouts are contrary to policy, asked to stop edit warring over this. I did suggest he reword the RFC to remove strikeout or at least put in hatting which is allowable … but up to you if you want (add I suggest not worth it) to file grievance over his editing your stuff. Me, I still hope third time may be the charm . Cheers Markbassett (talk) 15:59, 29 July 2019 (UTC)

I have more than enough on my table right now but I did glance at this. Help me to understand please: A RfC was set up saying that if anyone that replied did not include a ref their comment would be stricken, is that correct? Nobody likes to feel like a dope for not understanding what's going on and I certainly don't either. I've been here for almost 20 years and I've never seen anything like that. I must be wrong, right? Gandydancer (talk) 17:06, 29 July 2019 (UTC)
User:Gandydancer The WP:TALKO is fairly clear ... one should not edit another’s TALK, specifically not strikeout. You can Hat others material, and my inputs asked they edit rfc to say that plus that the rfc direction to give RS for other views have an E selection. You can strikeout your own content, showing reconsideration, but should not to someone else. Cheers Markbassett (talk) 22:33, 29 July 2019 (UTC)
Oh, OK...good then, not Alzheimers after all. Just plain old "It don't make much sense that common sense don't make no sense no more." Gandydancer (talk) 00:57, 30 July 2019 (UTC)

Death of Jeffrey Epstein[edit]

Hi. I saw some of your edits to Death of Jeffrey Epstein. I'm not clear what you mean by "both sides". Regarding the "Connections to public figures" section specifically, I removed it from the article entirely after discussion on the talk page. You're welcome to contribute there. --MZMcBride (talk) 22:07, 23 August 2019 (UTC)

MZMcBrideI guess I could have been more clear, but if you look at the edit you're referring to, you'll see that prior to my addition, defense of Alan Dershowitz was exhaustively laid out, whilst there was no mention of Guiffre's counter-suit. That's what I meant by "both sides". petrarchan47คุ 06:09, 1 September 2019 (UTC)
