Requests for permissions

This page enables administrators to handle requests for permissions on the English Wikipedia. Administrators are able to modify account creator, autopatrolled, confirmed, file mover, extended confirmed, mass message sender, new page reviewer, page mover, pending changes reviewer, rollback, template editor rights and AutoWikiBrowser access.

Editors wishing to request a permission flag here should do so following the procedure below. Editors requesting permissions are advised to periodically revisit the requests page, as notifications will not always be given after a decision is made. Editors should not expect their request to be answered right away and should remember to be patient when filing a request. To find out what permissions your account has, go to Special:Preferences, where your permissions are listed in the user profile tab under "Member of groups".

Requests for permissions are archived regularly; please see Wikipedia:Requests for permissions/Archive for an index of past requests.

User groups

  • Account creator (add requestview requests): The account creator flag is granted to users who are active in the request an account process. The flag removes the limit on the maximum number of new accounts that can be created in a 24 hour period. It also allows users to make accounts with names similar to other accounts. The account creator flag is only given to users who participate in the ACC process and may be removed without notice should a user's participation in the account creation process cease.
  • Autopatrolled (add requestview requests): The autopatrolled flag is granted to users who are active in the creation of new articles. This tool is granted so their creations are auto patrolled in Special:NewPages. Unlike other requests, any user may nominate an editor for Autopatrolled, even without that user's consent. A user who wishes to have this flag generally should have created at least 25 articles and must be trusted, experienced, and must have demonstrated they are familiar with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, especially WP:BLP and Wikipedia:Notability.
  • AutoWikiBrowser (add requestview requests): AutoWikiBrowser is a semi-automated MediaWiki editor for Microsoft Windows, designed to make tedious repetitive tasks quicker and easier. It is essentially a browser that automatically opens up a new page when the last is saved. When set to do so, it suggests some changes (typically formatting) that are generally meant to be incidental to the main change. Please read the quick guide on the main page before requesting permission. This is not a true user right, but access needs to be granted by administrators just like other permissions. If approved, your name will be added to the CheckPage. Users with under 250 non-automated mainspace edits or 500 total mainspace edits are rarely approved. You will need to give a reason for wanting AWB access.
  • Confirmed (add requestview requests): The confirmed flag may be granted to new users who have not yet hit the threshold for autoconfirmed status. These are users who have not had both 10 edits and 4 days experience. People with this flag can upload files and edit semi-protected pages before hitting the autoconfirmed flag. Users requesting this flag must indicate clearly why they should be exempted from the customary confirmation period.
  • Event coordinator (add requestview requests): The event coordinator user right allows editors to create multiple new accounts, and to temporarily confirm accounts so that they can create new articles.
  • Extended confirmed (add requestview requests): The extended confirmed flag is normally automatically added to accounts after 500 edits and 30 days, but may be added to legitimate alternate accounts of users that already have this access. The flag allows users to edit pages under extended confirmed protection.
  • File mover (add requestview requests): The file mover user right is intended to allow users experienced in working with files to rename them, subject to policy, with the ease that autoconfirmed users already enjoy when renaming Wikipedia articles.
  • Mass message sender (add requestview requests): Mass message sender enables users to send messages to multiple users at once. This flag is given to users who have had made requests for delivery in the past, clearly showing an understanding of the guidance for use.
  • New page reviewer (add requestview requests): The new page reviewer user right allows users to mark pages as patrolled and use the page curation toolbar. At administrators' discretion, the right may be accorded on a time limited basis or indefinite.
  • Page mover (add requestview requests): The page mover user right allows users experienced in working with article names to move them, subject to policy, without leaving behind a redirect. They may also move all subpages when moving the parent page(s). General guidelines include making 3,000 edits and 6 months of editing history. At administrators' discretion, the right may be accorded on a time limited basis or indefinite.
  • Pending changes reviewer (add requestview requests): The reviewer flag is granted to users who are experienced enough with Wikipedia editing and its policies for contributing to the process of reviewing articles placed under pending changes. There is no set number of edits that must be done, but a general rule of thumb is that a user is Extended confirmed. However, a user must be Confirmed or auto-confirmed user to add requests to the page.
  • Rollback (add requestview requests): Rollback enables users to remove vandalism much more quickly and efficiently than by undoing it. Users who do not demonstrate an understanding of what constitutes capable vandalism fighting, either because they have no or little history of doing so, or show a poor ability to discern between good and bad faith edits will not be granted this right. Also, it is unlikely that editors with under 200 mainspace edits will have their request granted. For a more detailed explanation of rollback and information about when it is appropriate to use the tool, see Wikipedia:Rollback. For information about the technical details of the feature, see here.
  • Template editor (add requestview requests): The template editor flag allows users to edit protected templates and Lua modules. General guidelines for granting include making at least 1,000 edits overall (with at least 150 to templates or modules), being a registered user for over a year, and having a record of successfully proposing significant edits to several protected templates. Users should demonstrate proficiency with template syntax and an understanding of the need for caution when editing heavily-used templates.

Handled elsewhere

Several permissions are requested and handled elsewhere:

Removal of permissions

If you wish to have any of your permission flags (except administrator) removed, you should contact an administrator. If you want your administrator flag removed, you should contact a bureaucrat.

This is not the place to request review of another user's rights. If you believe someone's actions merit removal of a permission flag, you should raise your concern at the incidents noticeboard.

The bureaucrat, checkuser, and oversight flags are removed at meta:Steward requests/Permissions. Stewards will typically not carry out such requests unless they are made on behalf of the Arbitration Committee, by a user who is requesting their own access be removed, or in cases of an emergency.

To make a request for a permission, click "add request" next to the appropriate header and fill in the reason for wanting permission.

Any editor may comment on requests for permission.

Administrators are permitted to grant account creator, autopatrolled, confirmed, event coordinator, file mover, mass message sender, pending changes reviewer, rollback and template editor flags to any user who meets the criteria explained above and can be trusted not to abuse the tool(s). Administrators may either grant these permissions permanently or temporarily. For convenience, a bot will automatically comment with relevant data if the user does not meet configurable qualifications. Even if the bot does not comment, administrators should review the user's contributions and logs to ensure the tools will be used appropriately and check for any indication of potential misuse.

Once an administrator has granted a permission or decided to deny a request, they should add {{done}} or {{not done}} respectively under the request with their comments. If a user already has the requested permission, or is autoconfirmed and requesting confirmed, {{already done}} should be used. N hours after the last comment was made (as specified by the config), the request will be archived automatically: approved requests will be placed here; declined requests will go here. See User:MusikBot/PermClerk#Archiving for more information on archiving functionality.

  • Thanks for your request. Can you please comment on why you wanted your Siviwe Lutseke article deleted? And what is the back story to this copyviolation? Both these issues are rather recent. Schwede66 05:56, 21 November 2019 (UTC)
Schwede66, I believed that Siviwe Lutseke had not gained significant coverage in reliable sources yet and believed it was really a case of WP:TOOSOON hence the G7 request. I believe poor paraphrasing led to the Angel Campey copyright story Ceethekreator (talk) 09:12, 21 November 2019 (UTC)

I have created 40+ articles and only 2 deleted, but that was when I was still a newbie. I usually create notable Nigeria and football related articles showing that I know much about general notability guidelines. I'm working on creating more stand-alone articles for some of The Headies categories that are still yet to be created. For sure, getting this right will reduce the huge backlog at New pages patrol and the much workload on the hardworking New page patrollers, now that the holidays are coming soon. NNADIGOODLUCK (Talk|Contribs) 22:53, 20 November 2019 (UTC)

This user has created 27 articles with zero percent deletion rate as per xtools. Therefore they might be considered for autopatrolled rights. — Vaibhavafro💬 11:09, 21 November 2019 (UTC)
  • For reference, I wasn’t consulted about this request before it was made. If, however, it makes things easier for those patrolling new page creations, then that’s good enough for me. To be honest though, I’ve really got no preference either way. — Marchjuly (talk) 12:27, 21 November 2019 (UTC)
    • Sorry Marchjuly, I thought that this right is granted without consulting and is only intended to help New page reviewers, unlike rollback or reviewer rights. If you want, you can just leave a message that you don't want this right. Regards,— Vaibhavafro💬 12:35, 21 November 2019 (UTC)

Not done - If the file you want to upload is available under a free license, it should be uploaded to our free media repository, the Commons. You do not need any special permissions to upload there, and you can use the same username and password you use here. If it is not available under a free license, it should be requested using the Files for Upload process, which does not require any special permissions. Extended confirmed

Greetings, I noticed that I seem to have lost my extended confirmed abilities. I don't know if they were purposely removed or if some kind of error happened. Awhile back I was blocked because someone thought I was a sock puppet since I have two accounts. But I showed evidence that I was not using these accounts for abusive reasons, stating I was just new to Wikipedia's policy at the time. Therefore I was unblocked by an administrator. However not long afterward my extended confirmed powers seemed to have vanished. I did not receive a notification telling me I had lost them, but one of my guesses is that they were removed because about 400 of my first edits were made in my sandbox. You probably know it takes 500 edits to reach extended confirmed abilities. Well if this is the case, I have made multiple edits after the instance on real pages. In the current time I have contributed 1,075 edits in total, plus one more should appear when I post this request. Yes some were also made in the sandbox, however I was practicing my Wikipedia skills when I made them this time so that is like editing a real page. Suitably, as I said before, I made hundreds of edits on real pages afterward as well. If you are required to review my history you might be confused since in some of my earlier edits I wiki linked multiple countries and ethnicities but later I started removing those type of links. This was because another user sent me a message stating that you should not link nationalities or commonly used words because it is a WP:OVERLINK violation. Hence I changed my linking method. Nevertheless, according to this Wikipedia guide deleted edits still count as per obtaining extended confirmed abilities. So both of my linking styles should probably be considered. I also did a lot of other stuff such as expand articles, insert templates, fix grammar and more. There is another odd thing. Wikipedia will allow me to edit extremely popular articles which are locked but not certain ones that have lesser views according web analytics. For example it will let me edit the article Barack Obama but not the article Jews which has a smaller amount of views by millions. Perhaps this means nobody ever tried to remove my extended confirmed abilities and it was an error or they have nothing to do with preventing vandals from editing popular pages or something. Either way, may you please fix it if it was an error or give me back the abilities since I greatly improved myself on Wikipedia. Note, I am not asking for my other account to receive extended confirmed abilities, I am asking you to do it for this one. If this is not the proper place to do so, may you please redirect me to the right page. Prana1111 (talk) 17:53, 20 November 2019 (UTC)

The group was removed by Berean Hunter. — JJMC89(T·C) 03:05, 21 November 2019 (UTC)
Prana1111, the master account was blocked for a week in the sockpuppet investigation and I removed permissions from the sock account and indeffed it. After the week was over, you claimed that you had lost access to the master account so Huon unblocked your current account and indeffed the master - switching them. Prana1111 was created on September 27 but you made edits with the other account until Oct. 4. The password story looks really weak.
These edits to your sandbox on Oct. 17 are recognized by admins as gaming the system and I indef accounts that do that because they are done in bad faith and they are typically up to no good. You cheated the system to get extended confirmed status. For any account that is allowed to continue editing, the permissions are stripped as they were not earned in good faith. Indeed, adding a bunch of links as you have done and then reversing yourself due to OVERLINK doesn't count either. Extended confirmed status must be earned based on good edits. You apparently still need to be monitored closely.
Why do you want extended confirmed status?
 — Berean Hunter (talk) 10:11, 21 November 2019 (UTC)
Berean Hunter, actually it looks like the article I wanted to edit turns out it is not under extended confirmed protection anyway. But if you want you can grant me the abilities or maybe do it in the future, I mean I thought that the extended confirmed group was only made to stop vandalism reaching to higher viewed pages and I have no interest in doing any of that. Thanks for your feedback though. A reply is not necessarily needed for this response I just gave you, it is up to you.Prana1111 (talk) 17:15, 21 November 2019 (UTC)
Not done per Prana1111's note above. Prana1111, if you make 500 more (non-sandbox/trvial) edits from now over at least 30 days, feel free to drop back here and this can be added for you. — xaosflux Talk 22:06, 21 November 2019 (UTC)

New page reviewer

I have been using the page curation toolbar hours ago, but don't have the new page reviewer right to do it. The only thing I have been doing that is Twinkle. Cheers! CentralTime301 19:18, 16 November 2019 (UTC)
@CentralTime301: I don't see any record of your having New Pages Reviewer. Can you tell me more so I can help troubleshoot? Best, Barkeep49 (talk) 01:02, 19 November 2019 (UTC)
Not done. See WP:ANI#CentralTime301 edits may need a closer review. NinjaRobotPirate (talk) 01:34, 21 November 2019 (UTC)

I would like to have the WP:NPP right as I am/was active at WP:CSD & WP:AFD AfC and want to help wherever I can in getting new articles into tip-top shape and have seen there can be quite a large backlog sometimes. I have experience with things such as copyright violations and reliable sources and know the inclusion guidelines for articles and I'd like to request New Page Reviewer rights as Barkeep49, asked on project talk page here to help at NNP. Actually at first to I'm working on new page related page, So mostly I'm active like to edit new article, in Bangladeshi lot of article still unreviewed, if this right i gotten it's must help me for more work with WikiProject Bangladesh related article. In addition I've extended confirmed user, pending changes reviewer rights on English Wikipedia. (I have a request from the admin if not eligible, ask me any questions) I hope that my contribution will helpful. Thanks-Nahal(T) 07:51, 20 November 2019 (UTC)
@NahalAhmed: thanks for volunteering. I was beginning to look at your work and you mention work at AfC, but I can't find any examples. Can you point me towards what you've done there? Best, Barkeep49 (talk) 16:05, 20 November 2019 (UTC)
@Barkeep49:, I made a simple mistake writing on here AFC. I usually work with WP:CSD / WP:AFD and try to be the most active. I think that currently have a good experience working WP:CSD & new page developing edit. No one is seen working on the Bangladeshi Wiki project in English Wikipedia and the few who come are so inactive. I love to edit mainly new pages, Since I am currently working on the Bangle wiki project, this right an advantage to me. There may be some mistakes in my work, but I think positively that if I got this right, I can correct mistakes and be able to do better work. It is actually a great pleasure to have this opportunity. Thanks-Nahal(T) 11:08, 21 November 2019 (UTC)
Done for six weeks. Your work at AfD seems strong. I would ask you to really review the criteria for speedy deletion as I see a couple question marks but nothing bad enough that would say you shouldn't get the permission in light of your overall record. Barkeep49 (talk) 23:21, 21 November 2019 (UTC)

I've been reviewing pages at AfC for a short while now and I think I could help out with New Page Review as well. As I mentioned to Barkeep49, my review rate is not prodigious but I have a good understanding of general notability guidelines and some expert knowledge (particularly in history, academic notability, and a few other areas) that would be useful for reviewing new pages. AugusteBlanqui (talk) 19:33, 20 November 2019 (UTC)
Done for three months. Please don't hesitate to reach out to me or others if you have questions. Barkeep49 (talk) 19:36, 20 November 2019 (UTC)

I've been active at New Pages Feed, WP:CSD and WP:AFD. As I've demonstrated in my edits and articles I create that I have good understanding of deletion, conflict of interest, general notability guidelines, reliable sources, don't bite the newcomers and copyright violations. I'm requesting for the new page reviewer rights to help in reducing the huge backlog at the new pages patrol, now that the holidays are coming soon and also, since Wiki Project Nigeria don't have a good number of New page reviewers, even though, there are too many articles related to the WikiProject that are been created. In addition, I've read WP:NPP and have understood what is required of a new page reviewer. I might be considered for this right. NNADIGOODLUCK (Talk|Contribs) 05:28, 22 November 2019 (UTC)

I've been a fairly frequent participant in WP:RM discussions for ~6 months, and have recently (over the last month or 2) started closing some discussions. I'd like to be able to complete the whole process myself without imposing on someone else via WP:RMT. I would also use the permission to perform uncontroversial moves over redirects, again side-stepping a trip to WP:RMT. I consider myself pretty well-versed in WP:AT policy, and conservative in my edits (I've so far never had an RM close or a technical request contested). Colin M (talk) 00:47, 19 November 2019 (UTC)
Support Looking through the page moves Colin M has performed, I like what I see in terms of many of Capital Airlines and similar articles being moved to a page name with an appropriate parenthetical qualifier where there is more than one company, object, event, person, etc., and no clear primary topic. I'm a big fan of having disambiguation pages not have the "disambiguation" parenthetical qualifier. My underactions with him Colin in page move discussions have been positive and he has given me some useful tips. --Doug Mehus T·C 17:03, 21 November 2019 (UTC)

Pending changes reviewer

Have been a reviewer in de:wp for years. Want to help speeding up visibility of good edits in medical articles. Saidmann (talk) 19:36, 14 November 2019 (UTC)

I've been editing Wikipedia for about a year now. I've originally was wary about any permissions, but I've had some run-ins with changes made to articles that don't reflect our goals and values. I want to help prevent this and I believe this permission will help me with this. I'm generally active on Wikipedia almost every day. This should also help me defend better against vandalism. HurricaneGeek2002 talk 18:56, 15 November 2019 (UTC)

I have been regularly editing for several years now. I have a good track record in responding to vandalism, and reviewer rights would help me curate the articles I watch. I've thoroughly read WP:RPC and understand it.--Sakiv (talk) 02:17, 16 November 2019 (UTC) Sakiv (talk) 02:17, 16 November 2019 (UTC)

There are a number of pages on my my watchlist that have pending changing review, particularly two or three I have requested myself. While I mostly spend time on the pending changes articles on my list undoing vandalism I had a case today where I couldn't accept some useful good faith changes from an anon IP and as a result am of the opinion I should probably request the privilege. I am not intending to change my editing pattern but and have no intention to take a mop to Special:PendingChanges, my main concern is to be able to accept good faith changes on my stewardship watchlist. I am aware of at least one controversial article with pending changes protection on my watchlist I might need to be very careful of accepting a seemingly good faith edit and might leave that to others. I have read HELP:REVIEWING and WP:VANDAL and believe I have an adequate if not perfect awareness of guidelines and policies. Thankyou. Hi! I am an editor trusted with the rollbacker rights. I have completed a Counter Vandalism Unit Academy Training page, found here if you want to look over it. I would like the Pending Changes Reviewer right because when I do CV work, I come across quite a few pending changes edits that would be good, and when I looked into it more, I saw that there is a big backlog. So, I read up on the policies, (I have read all the criteria) and mulled over whether or not I should request the rights. Eventually, I decided it would be worth it, and so here I am. I realize this may seem like a power-grab, because I only just recently got rollback, but the reason I want the right is so that I can help with the backlog. Thank you for considering my request, - Puddleglum2.0 Have a talk? 04:25, 20 November 2019 (UTC)

I've been editing wikipedia for quite a while now and I'm now trying to expand more of my permissions and to help editors that only edit via their IP address. I have also found that if I want to speed up a page that has not many pending changes reviewers looking at it, I can help with that by accepting people who edit those pages to speed of the process of making it a live edit.
