Welcome to the Interstellar Lounge and Cafe!

More funky, or…

…less funky.

'Sit down, have a cup. While you're here something to muse on:'

Think about what an awesome trip you're on,
How many millions of people benefit from Wikipedia every day,
How marvelous it is that people all over the world have collaborated to create this unique resource,
How important sharing knowledge is,
How people working together over time can do amazing things.

Hope that was an inspiring musing. 😎-----😇

What to do next[edit]

Tips for feedback[edit]

Tell us what you liked about it, where we could improve, and what you learned

How you can help
  • Play the game all the way through. Do you get stuck anywhere? Is anything unclear?
  • Finish the game if you only played a few missions: Give some attention to missions 5-7 (which have been tested much less)
  • Start over fresh with a new account: Like User:OcaasiTWA17 (these are legitimate alternate testing accounts and are not considered sockpuppets)
  • Try a different browser: If you used Safari, try Firefox (or Chrome, Internet Explorer, Opera...)
  • Show the game to a friend or family member to see how they like it and if they get stuck anywhere
In your feedback, please include any of your thoughts on
  • text instructions within the game
  • graphic placement
  • bugs in the tour mechanics
  • your web browser
  • your screen resolution
  • which step of the tour you were on if something didn't work (see the step= in the url)
  • what you liked
  • what you didn't like
  • what you think would work better
  • your thoughts on the design: the theme, the guide, the characters, the colors, the images, the sounds
known bugs
Bug Stats
  • Fixed: 188!
  • Remaining: 3

Not fixable this version[edit]

  • Lingering Dialog Boxes: If you leave the tour without finishing, the guider dialog boxes will follow you until you [x] out of them (this is a Guided Tours issue generally and there's no easy fix) Example
  • Vector Only: If you're using monobook or modern etc., the layout won't work. Almost all new editors will be using Vector, so this is a known, acceptable trade-off
  • Old Internet Explorer: The game is not compatible with older versions of IE. IE8 doesn't work. Try IE9 or even better IE10.
  • Source Editor Only: The game doesn't work with Visual Editor. It could, but it won't be fixed until VE is stable and out of opt-in beta. Example
  • Mobile and Tablet Formatting Fails: While tested for most modern desktop and laptop browsers, the game is not configured to work properly on tablets and other smaller devices. It may, but we'd be getting lucky.
  • Doesn't scale to my preference of window size or scale symmetrically (ctrl 0/-/+). FF 25. (@start)

Fixable (working on these now)[edit]

mechanics[edit]

  • Reply using edit section links in some places rather than full page edit Example
  • There's no way to jump ahead if you are repeating steps or trying to get back to where you left off mid-mission.
  • If you [x] out of the tour, especially if so you can edit, then there's no way to get back to where you were (see example fix above for a 'skip' option) (should skips go per step, or per chunk?) Example
  • Galactic challenge box has only an [x] and a back button, is it clear you answer the question below? Example
Sorry to cut in, but I didn't realize that "Challenge yourself..." did anything beyond cheer-leading you to continue the game. Thanks for posting this. Wordreader (talk) 01:18, 13 March 2014 (UTC)
  • Back buttons on edit summary steps are being cut off at the bottom, no way to go back to edit instructions.
  • "Challenge yourself..." box only displays the words "Challenge yourself..." and stays in a fixed place of the monitor at mission 5 step 7 and the following page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ælfwynya (talkcontribs) 17:58, 28 May 2015 (UTC)

usability[edit]

  • warning, only click buttons that post message once?
  • a way to say 'yes, i've done this already, skip ahead?' (add skip forward button?) Example
  • Restart Repeats: If you replay, a mission, the messages will be resent to you (the tour doesn't 'know' if you've played before). To better retest the game, create a legitimate alternate testing account (e.g. OcaasiTWA17) which is not considered a sockpuppet at all.

content[edit]

  • TWA doesn't use/introduce cite templates
  • no mention of plagiarism and copy/paste problems
  • no mention of Show Preview
  • too many smileys?

I'm a fairly experienced user who stumbled across the tutorial and thought I'd check it out. Yikes! An alien kidnapped me and started sending coded messages in my name. The weird girl/butterfly/constellation/alien/whatever-it-is was following me around, too.
How do I opt out of this thing? YoPienso (talk) 03:13, 5 March 2019 (UTC)

  • @Yopienso: You belong to us now. THERE IS NO ESCAPE. ~Swarm~ {talk} 21:36, 5 March 2019 (UTC)
  • But in all seriousness, the simulated messages/page creation are just caused by you interacting with the tutorial. Nothing else will happen if you stop. You can just delete the message on your talk page, and I will delete any additional pages for you if you want. ~Swarm~ {talk} 21:45, 5 March 2019 (UTC)
    • Aaaaaaaaiiiiiiiiieee.... [falls into the abyss]
    • Yes, please! I would appreciate that. YoPienso (talk) 00:40, 6 March 2019 (UTC)
Thanks so much for ransoming me from her clutches. YoPienso (talk) 16:55, 10 March 2019 (UTC)
@Yopienso: Please never stop editing here, you're fantastic. ~Swarm~ {talk} 05:09, 16 March 2019 (UTC)
So kind of you to say that. I'm busier in real life now but may do a little more here in the summer. Thanks again for removing those pages. YoPienso (talk) 02:03, 17 March 2019 (UTC)

Feedback[edit]

What I liked

I liked the fact that it could appreciate good edits and even gave an edit badge

What I didn't like

What I didn't like was that it didn't allow me to explore beyond the given task. The icon always obstruct my view anytime I wish to explore other functions.

What I wanted more of

I want more of technicalities, more practical like in terms of being creative with creating pages and not just articles. Tho! It was an awesome journey

What was unnecessary

I think there should be an end to the game, we shouldn't be taken aback all the time, tho options should be made at will for players.

Any other thoughts you want to share

I also think there should be a mission that teaches how to upload pictures and how to create profiles that have vertical structure as seen in some pages of notable personalities for eg: |Name.           |Wikipedia |Age.             |Since 2001 |Purpose.         |Knowledge bowel

Possible Typo on Wikipedia adventure Mission 7[edit]

I was doing The Wikipedia Adventure yesterday, when I believe I discovered a typo in the section involving adding wiki links. We were instructed to add a link to the first instance of the key word in each section.

For the surface section we were supposed a link to urbanization. However, instead of a z, an s was present.

A screenshot of my desktop, uploaded to Imgur, during the mission in question.

May someone please investigate this error further?

Thank you

A2937 (talk)

@A2937: urbanisation redirects to urbanization. Both spellings are allowed in Wikipedia, and it is allowed to link to the redirect. See Wikipedia:Manual of Style#National varieties of English and American and British English spelling differences#-ise, -ize (-isation, -ization). PrimeHunter (talk) 22:07, 6 April 2019 (UTC)

The use of British/American English was inconsistent: I think it was in Mission 7, when both civilization and urbanisation were used.

The description of the "Embedded file" icon is incorrect: it looks more like two mountain peaks than a palm tree...?

The game sometimes glitches if the back button is pressed. I once ended up having to intentionally undo the changes I made and redo them again in order to continue.

Overall quite enjoyable and informative. Many thanks!

Feedback[edit]

What I liked

Learning some new useful things.

What I didn't like

The claim that Wikipedia articles are true because they're based on customary printed sources, when the customary printed sources are often quite wrong.

What I wanted more of

Nothing in particular.

What was unnecessary

The music clips. I stopped listening to them, so if there was anything really important after the point when I did, I missed it (but I doubt there was).

Any other thoughts you want to share

Yes, here are a few notes.
It says EDIT SOURCE, but what I have is not that but EDIT.
It says PUBLISH, but what I have is PUBLISH CHANGES.
There's no KEEP EDITING button that I can see.
There's also no signature button with the indicated symbol. Instead it has four tildes on it.
All my contributions aren't to my userpage and Talk page. The comment in the game to that effect is only valid for new registrants.
There was one point where I was supposed to click INSERT, but I saw no INSERT button.
"Now click your mouse beneath the first section heading (Shape and structure)" – But where exactly? I didn't know and wasn't sure. I'd say "in the blank line under the first section heading (Shape and structure)".

Feedback[edit]

What I liked

I really loved the fun touches (like the music) and the touch of humor in the text.

What I didn't like

I think I somehow reset the process by having multiple Wikipedia tabs. That's the only constructive bit I can think of.

What I wanted more of

I think the Adventure could be a little bit more in depth or longer.

What was unnecessary

I think it was all good stuff!

Any other thoughts you want to share

I really appreciate the time you guys took to build this. It was very helpful and left me feeling positive about myself and excited about Wikipedia. You guys rule, great work! :)

Feedback[edit]

What I liked

I like how this is would be useful for new wikipedians to learn how to edit and such.

What I didn't like

I've been using wikipedia since january, so I had already discovered everything this teaches here by myself.

What I wanted more of

I didn't find I wanted any more of what was here. I think this is the perfect length.

What was unnecessary

I didn't find much of it too unnecessary.

Any other thoughts you want to share

Overall I think this is pretty cool!

How come the stuff save I do not see it?

Second Earth page contains weasel words[edit]

I don't think there should be weasel words in an example article used to help new editors. I added a template where they are in my version (which contains numerous large images, apologies). InvalidOS (talk) 16:28, 17 May 2019 (UTC)
