Prince Harry used to be the 'people's prince' but has become 'hypocritical, preachy and detached,' a royal author claims

  • Royal expert Duncan Larcombe warns Prince Harry could lose his 'popularity'
  • He criticised Duke, 34, and Duchess of Sussex, 38, for travelling via private jet
  • Author claimed the royals are going from 'one PR disaster to another'

The Duke of Sussex is 'preachy' and 'hypocritical,' a royal expert and former editor has claimed.

Duncan Larcombe told Yahoo UK's 'The Royal Box' that Harry's way of managing things has changed as he's got older.

Harry, 34, and Meghan, 38, who often speak out in support of various environmental causes, have holidayed in Ibiza and at Sir Elton John's £15M villa in Nice in the south of France in recent weeks.

'He was a people's prince, he's now become some hypocritical, preachy, detached, slightly confused young prince and he'll lose his popularity because of that,' said Duncan. 'I think that's a tragedy because I think he's a great guy.'

The comments come following recent backlash surrounding the royal's choice of transport - despite their persistent posturing about being green.

Duncan went on to claim that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are 'going from one PR disaster to another.'

'A couple that have put themselves out there to lecture us all on needing to do our little bit to save the environment are going on holiday on private jets all summer,' he added.

'Do they think that we're all mad? Do they think that the public won't see them as aloof from them?'

And when presenter Kate Thornton suggested the royals have always travelled by private jet, Duncan insisted this wasn't the case.

He recalled a time when Prince Harry went on a ski trip with friends and flew using a budget airline.

In recent weeks, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex enjoyed a secret trip to Ibiza on a private jet to celebrate Meghan's birthday.

Meghan, who turned 38 on August 4, is thought to have flown to the island with husband Prince Harry on what would have been three-month-old Archie's first holiday.

The royal couple and Archie stayed in a secluded villa away from prying eyes, and travelled with security personnel for the 'six-day trip'.

Then just two days after the gas-guzzling flight, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were pictured arriving in the south of France.

It is estimated Prince Harry and Meghan generated an estimated seven times the emissions per person compared to a commercial flight when they flew to Nice on Wednesday.
