Can't she afford the real thing? Kylie Jenner is called out for carrying a $30 'knockoff' of a $1,850 Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen bag as she promotes BFF Stassie's new fashion collab

  • Fashion watchdog Diet Prada called out blatant similarities between Missguided's faux leather ruched bag and a design by The Row
  • Kylie Jenner, 22, was criticized for flaunting the bag as she promoted her own best friend Stassie's collection with the online retailer
  • The bag retailed for $30, while The Row's leather version costs around $1,850
  • After it was called out by Diet Prada, the bag was pulled from the website
  • While initially thought to be part of the Stassie collab, as Kylie wore a head-to-toe look with said bag for the launch party, the style doesn't appear in the drop

Kylie Jenner has come under fire for promoting a high street bag that is a blatant dupe of a luxury design by Mary-Kate and Ashley Olson's line The Row.

The social media star, 22, stepped out earlier this week in a head-to-toe look from her friend Stassie's collaboration with e-commerce fashion giant Missguided.

The mom-of-one wore a two-piece ruched blush outfit, supposedly from the collection, which she accessorized with a small circular handle bag - but when images of the ensemble made it to Instagram, Kylie was called out for promoting the rip-off design, which bore more than a passing resemblance to The Row's cult-status Double Circle Bag.

Diet Prada, a popular Instagram account which calls out bad practices in the fashion industry, uploaded a damning side-by-side comparison of the bag's similarities.

'That bag is no stranger to fast fashion knockoffs, having been spotted everywhere from Asos to NYC's Necessary Clothing,' the caption read.

The Diet Prada duo also threw shade at 'BFF turned fashion designer' Stassie (Anastasia Karanikolaou), stating, 'Oh, to be able to leverage your BFF's fame and do nothing but slap your name on a product and call it a day lol.'

Missguided's Nude Faux Leather Ruched Bag was already available on the site ahead of Stassie's collaboration landing on site today.

In the drop of 39 styles, which became available in the 'stassie x missguided' curated collection today, the bag was not visible.

As Diet Prada's post garnered over 20,000 likes in mere hours, the $30 bag now seems to have been pulled from the web, as a live link of the accessory redirects to the homepage.

Missguided have not yet responded to a request for comment.

'I mean this is just so frustrating. But if people are silly enough to pay money for this trash what can you do? I just think of all the real designers not getting their due and the designing talent the world is missing out on because our attention is being taken up by these ‘designers’. Sadly that's life,' a commenter wrote under the post.

'Fast fashion needs to die,' said another Instagram user.

'Just cause someone does a collab with a fashion brand does not make you a fashion designer lol we need to stop giving these titles out so easily,' said yet another.

'Why can’t these "influencers" just leave designing for the real hardworking original creatives,' echoed someone else, voicing a similar sentiment.

The Row's version in the same hue is sold out on virtually every online fashion site, attesting to its popularity. Depending on size and fabric, it retails for around $1,850.

The bag has found fans in Sienna Miller, models Martha Hunt and Gigi Hadid and influencer Chriselle Lim.

Chrissy Teigen, Emily Ratajkowski and Priyanka Chopra are also fans of the brand's luxury bags.

Diet Prada also questioned why Kylie is supporting Missguided after her sister Kim Kardashian West's high profile lawsuit.

Earlier this year, Kim won a lawsuit against the fashion site after she claimed they were using her name to sell products.

According to The Fashion Law, the British-based site's US arm were told to pay Kim $2.7 million for 'knocking off' copies of her outfits.

Kim initially filed suit in February after the site posted an image of a lookalike model wearing a metallic cut-out frock almost identical to a custom Yeezy dress that she had worn.

Ironically, Kim had posted an image hours earlier saying 'fast fashion brands ... please wait until I wear this in real life before you knock it off?'

Not missing a beat, Missguided posted a sneak-peek of the copycat dress with the caption, 'the devil works hard but Missguided works harder'.

The reality TV star claimed that Missguided has made a habit of using her name and image in a bid to commercially exploiting her without permission.

Missguided was ordered by a judge in California to pay the damages after it failed to respond to her lawsuit.
