In a passage printed by People, Nico recalls getting the call about Bethany's unexpected pregnancy when the two weren't romantically together, but the actor shared that they still flew out to get the fitness entrepreneur through the difficult time.

Nico, who is bisexual, and Bethany, 29, who is also sexually fluid and non-binary, have been in a polyamorous relationship for over ten years.
They married in March 2018, though they are both still open to dating other people.
But back during a time when they weren't together as a couple at all, Nico got a dramatic call from Bethany who revealed that they had fallen pregnant with another person's baby.
Opening up: The story comes from the actor's new autobiography Space Between: Explorations of Love, Sex, and Fluidity
Though they hadn't spoken to each other for a year at that time — and the baby was someone else's — Nico still flew to Dallas to get Bethany through the abortion.
'Everything that happened next is sort of a blur,' the actor wrote.
'The baby wasn’t mine, obviously, but it didn't matter. After deep consideration, Bethany knew they couldn’t keep the baby. I went to the doctor’s office with them the day I landed.'
'I had dealt with a partner’s abortion firsthand a number of years before and was all too familiar with the process. It’s a painful one, emotionally, physically, and spiritually,' Nico added.
Bethany had a medical abortion, taking a pill and returning home, where the two lit candles to honor both the 'life lost' and the 'life gained.'
The moment was a 'turning point' for the couple, whose bond got stronger.
'It had been years since we were this intimate. It solidified our forever quality — that no matter what had happened in our separate individual lives, no matter what had transpired in the time lost, no matter how much we did or didn’t talk, we showed up. We honored. We celebrated. We were family, forever,' the actor wrote.
And Nico said that they actually plan to have children together.

'I’m excited for when we do have kids and for the conversations in the world of social justice to start changing.
'[I’m excited] for us to be able to have the perspective that we have, to be able to give our advice and learn from our children and our children’s children. I’m excited to watch the world change next to Bethany.'
Nico also explores a history of drug abuse in the book, as well as a personal exploration of sexuality and gender. Bethany helped Nico on both fronts.
'Bethany didn’t read anything until it was finished,' Nico told People of the book. 'It was a very emotional experience for both of us. In so many ways, it’s our love story. We’ve gone through [so much] in a short amount of time.'
But though they remain in love, Nico looks forward to dating new people.
'Navigating this non-monogamous relationship has proven to be very interesting. Difficult at times,' the actor said.
'I am excited to continue to grow as individuals, while also as a couple. I’m excited to date new people, to bring them into the relationship.'
