A police spokesman said: 'His death is being treated as suspicious and an investigation has been launched.

'A man and a woman were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and have since been released on police bail until 28 November.'

Cambridgeshire Police have taken the unusual step of not naming the alleged victim, suggesting his identification could hamper the investigation.

Nor have they published the ages of those arrested or the address which they were called to.

It is, at this stage, unclear what injuries the boy sustained or how he died.

St Neots is a town of around 30,000 people, which is around 15 miles to the west of Cambridge.
