The Walking Dead's Danai Gurira confirms she is leaving the show after 10 seasons playing Michonne
Danai Gurira has confirmed she is leaving The Walking Dead.
The 41-year-old actress, who plays Michonne, announced on Friday while at the show's Comic-Con panel that she is saying goodbye to her character on the show.
She made her first appearance in the season two finale, and season 10 will be premiering on October 6th on AMC.

'I can confirm this is the last season I'll be on this amazing TV show as Michonne,' she said on the panel.
'I would just like to say this has been one of the purest joys in my life. I am very very thankful for the experience I've had in ways that I cant even express right now. My heart does not leave… it doesn't ever end, the connection between us never ends.'
'It was a very difficult decision. It was about my calling and other things I feel called to… as a creator of work. All I'm filled with is a lot of pain about leaving and a lot of gratitude and to all of you. I love you guys. TWD family is forever.'

It was previously said that the Black Panther actress was only going to appear in a 'handful' of episodes and was only going to star in the three planned spinoff movies with Lincoln's Rick Grimes.
There is no other mention of this.
'Obviously, Danai has been a huge part of this show since she came in in season 3 as the shadow figure part of saving Andrea at the end of season 2,' showrunner Angela Kang said in an interview with EW.

'Michonne is a fan favorite character from both the comics and the show, and we just love this person and this character, and we want to do right by her, which is a huge challenge,' she continued.
She went on to call her a 'powerhouse of an actress' and said that her 'performances speak for themselves' after Gurira worked her magic throughout the seasons on the show.
Kang finished with saying that there are some 'unique stuff' to this upcoming season and they 'tried some stuff that we've never done on the show with her.'
During the panel, the cast also unveiled the new season 10 trailer and the teaser for The Walking Dead movie.
The teaser showed a helicopter coming in over water and said 'Rick Grimes Returns Only In Theaters.'
