The Bachelor's Bekah Martinez hits the red carpet with unshaven legs: 'I’ve finally gotten to the point where I feel (almost) totally comfortable like this'
She's given her 572K Instagram followers glimpses of her unshaven legs and underarms over the past year.
Bekah Martinez, 24, shared an Instagram post on Friday explaining the grooming preference and sharing photos from a recent red carpet experience.
The former Bachelor let her legs show in their full glory while attending an event with her fellow Bachelor alumnae Kendall Long and Corinne Olympios.
Cutting her own path: Bekah Martinez, 24, shared photos of a red carpet event on Friday where she showed off her unshaven legs while opening up about her journey to self-acceptance
Bekah arrived to the red carpet in a silky green double-breasted dress that reached down to her thighs.
The look put her fit legs on display and highlighted her dark leg hair against her tan skin.
The reality star had on a pair of powder blue open-toe heels, and she carried along a black floral print clutch.
Rather than her usual raven-haired bob, she had her locks held back tightly in braids.
Not hiding: Bekah wore a silky green thigh-length dress that showcased the dark hair on her tanned legs
'I went to a red carpet event without shaving my legs!! This may sound really dumb, but it was a big deal for me. I’ve finally gotten to the point where I feel (almost) totally comfortable like this,' she captioned the photos.
The Bachelor star opened up about her journey to not removing her body hair.
'I stopped shaving my legs and armpits about a year ago as a practice of self-love. I grew up HATING the hair on my body. I was teased for it, snuck my mom’s razor at age 9, and would pray that god would remove my hair from the neck down. I would panic every time I got invited to go swimming and hadn’t shaved.'
Bekah's pregnancy with her daughter Ruth, now six months old, spurred her to make the change.

'When I got pregnant, I decided to work to overcome this insecurity. It’s not about “not believing in shaving”, it’s about believing I AM BEAUTIFUL, ATTRACTIVE AND “FEMININE” NO MATTER WHERE I HAVE HAIR ON MY BODY.
'It’s about showing girls you don’t have to listen when society tells you your natural features are ugly or gross. It has taken months to get used to it. The horrible online comments don’t help. But I’m getting there.'
She added a word of caution for other women being critiqued on their bodies.
'Remember, if someone has a problem with the way you look, that’s an issue with THEIR mentality, not YOUR body.'

No fuss: 'I get so freaking itchy and get eczema under my armpits when I do shave, and then waxing is expensive and then doing it myself — I mean, I used to wax it myself — but it’s just a hassle. And bottomline, I just don’t care!'
In April of last year, Bekah took to Instagram to defend her then-sporadic shaving habits, showing off some of her burgeoning underarm hair growth.
'I don’t shave my armpits when I don’t feel like it. And I don’t know, I don’t feel like it right now. I shave my legs most of the time, but I just don’t really care. And also, I don’t see why I should need to,' she said.
The nanny, who competed in season 22 of The Bachelor for Arie Luyendyk Jr.'s hand in marriage, described not shaving as a matter of comfort and saving money.
'I get so freaking itchy and get eczema under my armpits when I do shave, and then waxing is expensive and then doing it myself — I mean, I used to wax it myself — but it’s just a hassle. And bottomline, I just don’t care!'
By August of last year she gave up shaving completely.
Teaching moment: Bekah stopped shaving completely in August 2018, when she and her boyfriend Grayston Leonard, 29, announced her pregnancy with baby Ruth, six months
'Growing up being half-Mexican, I have a lot of body hair and it was always something I was really insecure about,' she continued.
'So its kind of liberating now at this point to be like, "You know what, if somebody doesn’t like me because of my body hair, f—k ‘em." I mean, if we really want to get real about it, look at my arms. I have very hairy arms. I have a freaking happy trail. It’s just the way I was made. I can’t help it.'
Bekah also opened up about societal pressure to remove hair from her nether regions.
'I don’t know where the social expectation came from that I was supposed to shave down there. I do not want red razor bumps all over my lady parts and I do not want to be with a man who expects me to do so,' she said. 'I’d rather have the hair and I want to look like a woman, not an 11-year-old.'
She also noted how the societal expectation to shave is ingrained in women starting at a young age, and girls as young as four and five have commented about her hairy legs.
Fighting back: On Sunday, Bekah shared a photo of her unshaven thighs to her Instagram Stories, while posting video rants from an Instagram user who called her body hair 'a desperate act for attention'
On Sunday, Bekah shared a photo of her unshaven thighs to her Instagram Stories.
They appeared to have new tattoos, though she revealed that they were actually ballpoint pen drawings.
She also shared a rant from a male follower who thought her choice to not remove her body hair was a 'desperate act for attention.'
Bekah's body love journey has come as she's raising little Ruth with her partner Grayston Leonard, 29.
The couple only began dating three months before Bekah got pregnant, though they seem to be going strong ever since.
