Katharine McPhee decided to take new husband David Foster's surname because it's 'romantic and traditional'.

The singer, 35, and the record producer, 69, married at the St. Yeghiche Armenian Apostolic Church in Kensington, London, on June 28, and she announced she had officially changed her moniker via social media last week.

Opening up on her decision to become Katharine McPhee Foster, she told Entertainment Tonight: 'I'm a romantic. I've always liked the idea that it's still a traditional thing that exists in our society. I like the idea.'

The former American Idol star admitted she still hasn't got used to her new last name, adding: 'It's a great last name... We've been away since we've been married, so not yet, but I love it. I just love the ring of it, so I'm enjoying it.'

Katharine described their relationship as 'just incredibly easy', explaining: 'We just love being with each other. There's no arguing, no drama. It's just easy. That's how it should be.' 

The couple got married at St. Yeghiche Armenian Apostolic Church in Kensington, London, on June 28. 

A host of famous faces joined the festivities, including tennis star Roger Federer, Katharine's dress designer Zac Posen and TV star Dr. Phil, with the group later celebrating with a reception at Oswald's Club in Mayfair.

The nuptials came exactly 13 years to the day after the release of the musician's debut single Somewhere Over The Rainbow, which David produced.

Katharine and David have been friends for many years, but were first romantically linked in May 2017.

The couple confirmed their engagement in June 2018 after the record producer popped the question on the Italian island of Capri.  

David is Katharine's second husband; she was previously married to actor Nick Cokas, 54, from 2008 to 2014.

Katharine is David's fifth wife and he has five daughters and seven grandchildren. 

The most recent of David's ex-wives is Yolanda Hadid, 55, the mother of supermodels Bella and Gigi Hadid.  

After a nine year relationship and four years of marriage, David and the Dutch Real Housewives Of Beverly Hills star called it quits in 2015 and officially divorced in 2017. 

He was first married in 1972 to singer B.J Cook and the couple had one daughter, Amy, before divorcing after almost 10 years of marriage.

David tied the knot with his second wife Rebecca Dyer in 1982 and they had three daughters, Sara, Erin and Jordan. They ended their marriage after four years in 1986.

Moving onto his third union, the record mogul wed actress Linda Thompson in 1991 and they collaborated on songs together throughout their marriage - but ended things in 2005.

During this marriage, David was step-father to Linda's sons with Caitlyn Jenner - previously Bruce - Brody and Brandon, who grew up living in his home in Malibu.   

Additionally, the Grammy winner has a 49-year-old daughter named Allison whom he recently reconnected with decades after placing her for adoption.
