Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson gives thanks to fans and colleagues as he announces end of HBO series Ballers after upcoming fifth season

It's a wrap for the hit HBO series, Ballers.

The sports-world dramedy, starring and executive-produced by Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson, will end with its upcoming fifth season. 

It was only fitting that The Rock, himself, made the official announcement to fans in a four-plus minute video that was posted on Instagram.

'Cheers to our FINAL SEASON of @HBO’s BALLERS,  the 47-year-old actor began in caption of the post. 

'My heart is full of gratitude to all of you for rockin’ with us every season. You made us HBO’s highest rated comedy for years and most importantly, you helped create and sustain a platform for other actors to have the OPPORTUNITY to work hard, grow and become household names.'

Showing his gratitude, he ended by adding, 'To me, the opportunity Ballers created for so many others, is the real gold of our show.I love you, I thank you and enjoy our final season of BALLERS. This SUNDAY on @HBO.' 

Of course, it was more than apropos that Johnson raised a glass of tequila and offered 'cheers' to the fans at the end of the video.

According to Hollywood Reporter, producers crafted season five with an ending in mind as a decision on the conclusion of the series was made months in advance.  

Created by Stephen Levinson and executive produced by Mark Wahlberg, Peter Berg and Andy Garcia, Ballers also stars Rob Corddry, John David Washington and Omar Miller, among others.

In the series, Johnson has starred as Spencer Strasmore, a retired NFL player-turned financial manager who hobnobs with a bevy of high-profile athletes and celebrities in Miami and beyond. 

The fifth and final season of Ballers will premiere on Sunday, August 25th on HBO at 10:30pm ET.
