In May, Julia confirmed that the scandalous show was returning for a third season in a statement alongside Sky Atlantic.

The Hustlers star shared: 'You’d think that there was nothing left for the Riviera to throw at Georgina but series three is our most ambitious yet. ‘I am thrilled to be a part of this incredible drama for Sky Atlantic. The chance to deliver another season of Riviera is exciting and I am grateful to our audience for coming along with us on this journey.'

Picking up immediately from the shocking ending of season one, with the Clios family still reeling from the devastation caused by Constantine’s mysterious death, Georgina continued her battle for dominance and control with Irina and her children Christos (Dimitri Leonidas) and Adriana (Roxanne Duran).

She also had to contend with new arrivals, the Eltham family - a dynasty who sailed into the shores of the Cote d'Azur, with secrets of their own.

Juliet Stevenson took on the role of Lady Cassandra Eltham and was joined on the Riviera by her children, the impossibly stylish Daphne (Poppy Delevingne) and the brooding Nico (Jack Fox) and Daphne’s husband Raafi (Alex Lanipekun).

Meanwhile, Georgina was reunited with her charismatic uncle Jeff (Will Arnett) and fans learnt more about the troubled past she left behind in America.

She also became entangled with the handsome and mysterious Noah (Grégory Fitoussi).

The first series of Riviera, which was Sky’s most successful original series, followed Georgina as she fought to find out the truth behind the death of her billionaire husband Constantine.

Julia spoke highly of the series to Deadline: 'I’m really proud that the show, particularly in season two, that is a very strong female driven show and one of the most interesting things for me is the relationship between my character and Lena Olin’s character – two women who are sometimes allies for mutual benefit and sometimes fight.

'This show could so easily be about the wealthy businessmen in the South of France but it’s actually more about the wife and the ex-wife and the daughter and sure we have our girls in bikinis and the crime of it all but there’s character under the story and it’s not just about the moguls.'
