Jasmine Guy is returning to Grey's Anatomy for season 16 to reprise her role as Gemma who landed in the ER after a freak accident

Jasmine Guy is coming back to Grey's Anatomy for season 16, according to a Tuesday report from Deadline.

The 57-year-old actress first made an appearance as Gemma last season. The Hollywood veteran saw her character arrive at the Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital emergency room after a freak accident.

The show stars Ellen Pompeo as Meredith Grey, Justin Chambers as Alex Karev, Chandra Wilson as Miranda Bailey, James Pickens Jr. as Richard Webber, Kevin McKidd as Owen Hunt and Jesse Williams as Jackson Avery.

It is there that by coincidence, she has a run-in with Dr Richard Webber, played by James Pickens Jr.

Gemma goes way back with Webber and the consequences will be played out in the upcoming season.

The show also stars Caterina Scorsone as Amelia Shepherd, Camilla Luddington as Jo Wilson, Kelly McCreary as Maggie Pierce, Kim Raver as Teddy Altman and Giacomo Gianniotti as Andrew DeLuca.

She was highly acclaimed for the role, even winning the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Image Award each year that A Different World hit the airwaves.

A year following her debut in A Different World, Jasmine landed her first feature film role in Spike Lee's School Daze.
