American Horror Story: 1984 ramps up the 80's kitsch with new character posters ahead of season premiere
American Horror Story: 1984's promos thus far have channeled 80's slasher films like Friday the 13th.
And FX further leaned into that B-movie aesthetic on Wednesday, when the cable network unveiled a gallery of kitsch character posters ahead of that evening's season premiere.
The posters, which all have an eerie and rather nostalgic feel, feature the primary cast of the show nimbly moving through dark and campy nightscapes, with their character names and credits prominently displayed.

Of course her name is Brooke: For the ninth go-round of horror anthology series American Horror Story, FX unveiled a gallery of cheeky character posters ahead of the season premiere
Emma Roberts, who's been featured in the series since season three's Coven, plays a seemingly wholesome character named Brooke Thompson, dressed in a girlish striped pastel sweater.
On the other hand there is Billie Lourd, who joined the series for Cult (season seven), who portrays the apparent bad girl known as Montana Duke, dressed in a leopard print mini skirt and a fringed leather jacket.
As with most of American Horror Story, the plot twists and turns are almost as numerous as the blood splatters, so any of the characters featured in these posters may end up entirely different by the end of the season, and surely more than half of them will be gruesomely snuffed out by then, anyway.
A notable new addition to the horror shenanigans is Olympic athlete Gus Kenworthy, who is making his featured TV acting debut.

Another intriguing newbie is Claws actress Angelica Ross, who will be playing camp nurse Rita in the series.
It's interesting to note the subtle touches of nostalgia here, like the use of the Cooper Black font for the actors' names—that font, famously used in the Wet Hot American Summer franchise, has become synonymous with '80s nostalgia.
Other characters featured in the gallery include Cody Fern's Johnny Depp-inspired (and hilariously named) Xavier Plympton, and Matthew Morrison making his AHS debut as Trevor Kirchner.

Morrison previously appeared in one of Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk's other successful TV projects, Glee, while Fern appeared in last season's Apocalypse as well as Murphy's American Crime Story: The Assassination of Gianni Versace.
Rounding out the gallery is Popular's Leslie Grossman, on a clipboard power trip as Margaret Booth, and Deron Horton as the heroic-looking Ray Powell.
