The comedian is still recovering from a car crash in early September, where he suffered major back injuries.

Hart was riding as a passenger in his 1970 Plymouth Baracuda when the classic car rolled into a ditch in Malibu, California.

While he was released from the hospital 10 days after the crash, he has continued his recovery at a rehabilitation center.

His appearance at the People's Choice Awards on Sunday was his first public appearance since the crash, and he thanked his family during his speech.

''First and foremost, thank God because I definitely don't have to be here,' he began. 'Being that I am, it makes me appreciate life even more.

'It makes me appreciate the things that really matter. Family. I want to thank my wife [Eniko Parrish], my kids, who really stepped up to the plate for me,' he added.
