The character choice was actually spurred on by Stewart herself.

'I mean, [Kristen] wanted to be gay in the movie and I'm like, "Yeah,"' Elizabeth said.

The actress/director revealed how how she wrote in a 'little moment' reflecting the character's attractions so as to 'make sure' Stewart was able 'to present a character she was fully behind.'

'I made sure we kept that little moment in so that you understand what she was attracted to,' Banks said, before going on to explain 'I just wanted to make sure that she was able to present a character that she was fully behind.'

Kristen didn't publicly address her sexuality until 2017, describing herself as 'so gay' to SNL audiences.

The star later clarified that she was bisexual during an interview with The Guardian, telling the publication: 'You're not confused if you're bisexual. It's not confusing at all. For me, it's quite the opposite.'

She famously dated her Twilight co-star Robert Pattinson from 2009 to 2013, before going on to date the likes of rocker St. Vincent, Kiwi model Stella Maxwell, and stylist Sara Dinkin over the past few years.

Recently the star revealed that she's already thought about settling down with girlfriend Dylan Meyer during a stop by Howard Stern last week.

Though K. Stew has been notoriously private about her relationships, she decided to take an honest approach with the legendary radio host and admitted she 'can't f***ing wait to propose to her new girlfriend.

When Howard asked if she was ready to propose, Stewart gave a hearty 'absolutely' to Stern.

'I can't f***ing wait,' she said. 'I have a couple of plans that I know would be the coolest thing to do.'

The Charlie's Angels star revealed that she told her girlfriend that she loves her just two weeks into dating, although the pair had known each other for more than six years after first meeting on a movie set.

'The first time that I told her that I loved her, we were like sitting in this random bar…I’ve known her for like six years, but we only started seeing each other like two weeks in, and it was literally like the day that I met her, all bets were off,' she said.

'I want to make movies and kids with this girl,' Stewart added. 'I can’t believe I’m so lucky. I literally drew her in a dream, and now she exists.'

Charlie's Angels, also starring Naomi Scott and Ella Balinska,  is set for theaters November 15.
