Carrie Underwood delivers sultry performance and teams with Dolly Parton and Reba McEntire for opening number in-between hosting duties at the CMA Awards in Nashville

She played more than host with the most on country music's biggest night.

And Carrie Underwood even managed to give an electric performance as a nominee at the 53rd Annual CMA Awards at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee on Wednesday.

She did get the help of legends Dolly Parton and Reba McEntire, who acted as both co-hosts and singing partners for the opening number of the evening.

Dressed in an eye-catching orange-fringe mini-dress, Underwood was sandwiched between the legendary country stars for a rendition of Parton's hit 1987 song Those Memories Of You.

The tune helped kick off a medley that included the likes of Tanya Tucker, Terri Clark, Gretchen Wilson, Jennifer Nettles, Crystal Gayle, Martina McBride, Brandi Carlile, Natalie Hemby, Amanda Shires, Maren Morris, Karen Fairchild and Kimberly Schlapman.

The opening sequence was all about paying tribute to women of country music, both past and present.

Underwood, who was serving as host of the event for the 12th consecutive year in a row, took a break from her starring role duties to give a sultry performance of her single Drinking Alone from her latest studio album, Cry Pretty.

For the number, she slipped into a black sequin ensemble that gave a hint of her legs with its sheer pattern along the legs that flared out from the knees down.

After shedding her black jacket, she showed off her toned upper body in a matching sequined halter-top that had plenty of openings in the front and sides of the piece.

She rounded out the outfit with silver belt and a black Panama hat over her long blonde tresses.

In the end she came up short in all three categories.
