Strictly's Kevin Clifton admits he's backing Alex Scott and Neil Jones to win and take his Glitterball Trophy after replacing the injured dancer

He won the 2018 series with his celebrity partner and now girlfriend Stacey Dooley.

And Strictly's Kevin Clifton has admitted that he is backing Alex Scott and Neil Jones to win the BBC One dancing show and take his Glitterball Trophy on Thursday's Good Morning Britain.

The professional dancer, 37, who replaced Neil, 37, and danced with Alex, 35, twice earlier this month as he recovered from a injury, showed nothing but support for the two stars.

When asked who is going to win Strictly Come Dancing by GMB hosts Ben Shephard and Susanna Reid, Kevin teased: 'I don't know... Team Red - Alex and Neil!'

In October, Kevin just had 45 minutes to learn a Ghostbusters dance routine and perform with Alex on the Halloween live show after Neil injured himself in dress rehearsals just moments before.

The professional dancer went on to perform with Alex the following weekend after Neil was forced to take another week off to recover.

Yet despite the last minute shake-up, Kevin admitted that the former footballer 'took it in her stride' and didn't 'kick off'.

He said: 'I can't imagine Alex Scott kicking off. She’s the most chilled out person. She took it in her stride. She just wants to enjoy the competition.'

Kevin was joined on the ITV chatshow with his sister and fellow dancer Joanne Clifton, she won Strictly Come Dancing in 2016 with Ore Oduba and then quit to focus on other projects.

Talking about whether she misses the hit BBC One dance show, she said: 'I went on Saturday to watch and the thing I miss the most is all my friends. I miss the environment of it.'

Despite already being eliminated on the current series of Strictly, Kevin was booted off the show with Anneka Rice on week three, he will be returning to the dance floor once again for the Christmas special.

He said: 'I'm dancing with the lovely Debbie McGee. We started rehearsals a few days ago. We’re doing a quickstep. I don’t know if I’m allowed to say that but there you go.'

Kevin and Joanne are teaming up for the Burn the Floor shows which will kick off in 2020.

The dancer's interview comes after Alex and Neil opened up about his injury on Wednesday's episode of This Morning.

Neil admitted it was 'hard to watch' his celebrity dance partner perform with someone else on Strictly Come Dancing and confessed he 'felt like he let her down' over his injury.

The professional dancer explained how he injured himself, and confessed that he'd been desperate to be paired with former England footballer Alex because they 'got on so well.'

Discussing how he injured himself, Neil explained: 'It was the weirdest thing, we had these proton packs on as we were doing Ghost Busters, I thought it came off hit me on the back of the leg.

'I looked down and continued, then I was like "okay, something funny has happened".

Alex added: 'Just the look on his face about to go into a lift, he was like, "I can’t!!" with Neil elaborating: 'It was just a pain, a little sprain in the muscle, I couldn’t walk on it.'

With just 45 minutes until they were due to perform, Kevin stepped in and quickly learnt the Ghostbusters routine in order to take Neil's place.

Alex said: 'Because it happened so quickly, Kev was there, I was teaching him the routine, Neil icing his leg saying "no do this", me saying "Kev go for this, do that!"

'Kevin was great he was like "we have to get you through this routine, Alex!" recalled the sportswoman.

Neil praised Kevin, explaining: 'That was a hard routine, we had been working on it for the whole week. He had 45 minutes, he said himself it is not his style!

But the professional dancer admitted that, although proud to watch Alex dance so well, it wasn't easy to watch Kevin take his place.

'That was that moment, I felt really proud, she knows the entire routine, she was on her own.

'It was hard, I didn’t care about my injury, at that moment I thought about Alex, I felt like I had let her down because I got injured.

'I wanted her to get through, get everything right, she was the best person!' gushed Kevin.

When quizzed about the reports claiming she was 'disappointed' to be reunited with Neil after having two weeks dancing with Kevin, Alex rubbished the claims.

She insisted: 'No, that’s why I woke up Sunday morning actually gutted, I had started blossoming when we were doing the Charleston it wasn’t due to Kevin.

'I had found this confidence, you wake up to those headlines, oh no, my partner is going to think I don’t like him anyway.

'That is where social media come in positively, I put out a tweet saying it’s not true, what people see on the show is not an act!'

Neil added: 'I know Alex, I get on well with Kevin, I’ve known him for 25 years. Between us, we were joking, I said the huge score is not you Kevin, that’s on her, not us.'

Turning to Alex, the Strictly pro praised her, explaining: 'It’s also the other side, you’ve been handling it really well!

'You’ve been great you’ve had two pros, dancing with Kevin, not knowing if I’m back, then jump in and dance with me, it is hard enough for a professional!'
