Fast & Furious 9 rumored to bring back the late Paul Walker's character Brian O'Connor

Just days after filming wrapped on Universal's Fast & Furious 9, a new rumor claims that the studio is bringing back the late Paul Walker for the sequel.

While still not confirmed by Universal, entertainment reporter Daniel Richtman tweeted earlier this month that he just got a casting grid with some 'big news' that he isn't sure how he feels about.

Then last week, he tweeted, 'It's been long enough. They are bringing back Paul Walker's character, Brian, to FF9.'

Walker was part of the Fast & Furious franchise from the beginning, starring alongside Vin Diesel as then-undercover-cop Brian O'Connor in 2001's The Fast and the Furious.

While the original stars went their separate ways over the next few movies, they reunited in 2009's Fast & Furious, and then 2011's Fast Five, 2013's Fast & Furious 6 and 2015's Furious 7.

Tragically, during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend in 2013, while on break from Furious 7, Walker was tragically killed at the age of 40 after a horrific car accident.

After extensive rewrites and reshoots, Furious 7 used the footage already shot of Walker, CGI technology and footage of his brothers Cody and Caleb as stand-ins, to give Walker's character Brian O'Connor a proper send-off into 'retirement.'

While O'Connor was mentioned briefly in 2017's The Fate of the Furious, he was not seen or heard from, though that may change if this rumor comes to fruition.

While no details were given about Walker's character potentially returning, another rumor surfaced just before production wrapped that hinted Fast & Furious 9 could feature flashbacks to Dominic Toretto's (Vin Diesel) past.

Just before filming wrapped, Diesel shared a video with Michelle Rodriguez from a race track, hinting that die hard fans will know where they're at.

Some fans have speculated that they were at Irwindale Speedway, while LADBible hints Fast & Furious 9 could revisit the first film.

In the first movie, Toretto tells O'Connor about a memory from his past, where he saw his father die during a stock car race, so it's possible that tragic event from Dom's past could be shown in Fast & Furious 9.
