It was a terribly hard decision for the Dancing With The Stars judge to make.

Carrie Ann Inaba has revealed that she went home and threw up after voting Dawson's Creek alum James Van Der Beek and his partner Emma Slater off the show on Monday.

The 51-year-old's extremely physical reaction came after James, 42, shared the news that his wife Kimberly, 37, had miscarried their sixth child this past weekend.

She has since revealed that she nearly died as a result.

'As a human being, what he and his wife Kimberly suffered is heartbreaking and I have so much sadness in my heart for them and my prayers are with them,' Carrie Ann shared with The Talk co-hosts on Thursday.

'But, you know, this is when it’s really hard is that, as a judge, I have to judge the dance.'

Instead, former Fifth Harmony member Ally Brooke, 26, and Australian pro dancer Sasha Farber, 35, will proceed to Monday's finals.

Carrie explained: 'I know on Dancing With The Stars we show [contestants'] stories and we get to know them and they become family — their pain is my pain.

'But at the same time it’s like in the Olympics: If something happens to somebody before they get on the gymnastics mat, it doesn’t matter what happens in your personal life.'

Earlier James had said: 'We lost the baby. The little soul that we had expected to welcome into our family took a shortcut to whatever lies beyond.

'All you know is that it brings you closer together, it breaks you open, it opens your heart, it deepens your appreciation. It makes you more human.'
