SALES – STATIONS

Detroit – Crawford Broadcasting files a $2 million deal to buy news/talk WCHB (1200) from Radio One. Don Crawford already owns three stations in the metro including religious “The Light” WMUZ (103.5), gospel “Glory 1340” WEXL, and religious “The Word AM 560” WRDT. Once the sale closes Radio One will move some of WCHB’s programming to gospel “Praise 102.7” WPZR. It also owns urban AC “105.9 Kiss FM” WDMK in the Detroit market and it operates urban “Hot 107.5” WGPR under a local marketing agreement. Broker: Michael Bergner

Montana – Cherry Creek Radio agrees to swap its five-station cluster in Helena, MT including classic rock “Z-101” KZMT, country “99.5 The Bull” KBLL-FM, hot AC “B-104” KBMI-FM, adult hits “98.5 Dave FM” KHGC, and “News Radio 950” KCAP to Kevin Terry’s The Montana Radio Company. In exchange for the station it is swapping away Cherry Creek Radio will receive the currently-silent KMTZ (107.7) in the Butte, MT area, as well as three Great Falls, MT-licensed FM translators including K298BL at 107.5 FM; K280GG at 103.9 FM, and K260AU at 99.9 FM. Cherry Creek already owns a five-station cluster in the Great Falls market. Under the terms of the deal The Montana Radio Company will also write a check for $1.89 million to Cherry Creek. The Montana Radio Company already owns six stations in the Helena, MT market so it will be required to spin-off four FMs in order to comply with FCC ownership limits. KBMI-FM and KHGC are being donated to Hi-Line Radio Fellowship. And “Rock 106.5” KKRK and classic country “Mo Legends 96.3” KVMO are being donated to Montana State University-Billings. Illinois – Between the Rockford, IL and Davenport, IA markets Fletcher Ford’s Virden Broadcasting files a $400,000 deal to buy AC “Q-94” WSSQ, Sterling, IL; classic country “Willie 102.7” WZZT, Morrison, IL; and news-talk/classic hits WSDR, Sterling, IL (1240) from Withers Broadcasting. Virden Broadcasting already owns nine other stations in Illinois but none will overlap with the cluster. It will operate the stations under a time brokerage agreement until closing. Oregon – Randy and Debra McKone’s Elkhorn Media Group files a $60,000 deal to buy KHKO, Prairie City, OR (102.9) from Tom Hodgin’s Xana Oregon. The sale includes a $50,000 promissory note. KHKO is a construction permit for a Class A FM covering a rural area of eastern Oregon at the base of the Strawberry Mountain Range. Elkhorn Media Group already owns the country simulcast of KJDY-FM (94.5) and KJDY (1400) in the area. Broker: MCH Enterprises

Texas – Tim Walker transfers his 50% stake in country “Lone Star 102.5” simulcast of KHLB, Mason, TX (102.5) and KZZM, Mason, TX (101.7) to his business partner Charley Jordan. The move is to settle Walker’s alleged embezzlement of an unspecified amount of money from their jointly-owned III & W Broadcasting. Walker has denied the allegations. Jordan also serves as morning host under the on-air name Uncle Charley.

SALES – TRANSLATORS

Tri-Cities, WA – Arturo Gonzales’ Centro Familiar Cristiano files a $75,000 deal to buy the Kennewick, WA-licensed translator K230BW at 93.9 FM from Thomas Hodgins’ Xana Oregon. The deal includes a $50,000 promissory note. Centro Familiar Cristiano plans to relay its Spanish-language religious format off of the HD4 channel of Alexandra Communications’ adult hits “Bob FM 100.1” KQFO onto the translator. Xana Oregon owns three full-power FMs in Oregon.

Allentown-Bethlehem, PA – Osiris Fernando Guzman files a $75,000 deal to buy the Reading, PA-licensed translator W296CL at 107.1 FM from the Northeastern Pennsylvania Educational Television Association. The filing says the translator will relay an HD3 channel off of Cumulus Media’s AC WLEV (100.7). Broker: Andrulonis Media Brokers

Monterey-Salinas-Santa Cruz, CA – Educational Media Foundation files a deal to sell three FM translators to California State University-Monterey Bay for $5,000. The deal includes the Palo Colorado Canyon, CA-licensed translator K217EK at 91.3 FM; the Santa Cruz, CA-licensed K207CN at 89.3 FM; and the Big Sur Valley, CA-licensed K237EV at 95.3 FM. The signals will extend the reach of Monterey market news/talk KAZU (90.3) or its HD2 all-classical format. EMF acquired the translators as part of its recently-closed $605,000 deal to buy KUSP (88.9) from the Pataphysical Broadcasting Foundation. That deal included one other translator: the Hollister, CA-licensed K206BQ at 89.1 FM. In addition to KUSP, EMF also owns contemporary Christian “K-Love” affiliate KLXY (97.9) and Christian CHR “Air1” affiliate KSRI (90.7) in the Monterey-Salinas-Santa Cruz market.

New Mexico – One Ministries files to swap the Truth or Consequence, NM-licensed translator K240ER at 95.9 FM to Arnold McClatchey in exchange for the El Paso-licensed K269GF at 101.7 FM. McClatchey will simulcast religious KELP (1590) on his El Paso market translator. And One Ministries will relay its Christian CHR “Broken FM” network on its translator. No cash is changing hands as part of the swap.

Alabama –Valleydale Broadcasting files to transfer the Tarrant, AL-licensed translator W252BE at 98.3 FM to Shelby Broadcast Associates. The filing says no cash is changing hands but the transfer is for “past engineering and consulting services” provided by Shelby to Valleydale.

CLOSINGS

Birmingham – Courtney French closes a $300,000 deal to buy R&B oldies/gospel “900 Gold” WATV from Ron Davenport’s Sheridan Broadcasting. French is a founding partner of the law firm of Fuston, Petway & French in Birmingham. The sale leaves Sheridan Broadcasting with two gospel/R&B stations: WIGO (1570) in Atlanta and “Mix 1080” WUFO in Buffalo—which it has a pending deal to sell to Vision Multi Media Group for $307,332.

North Carolina – Ken Santarelli’s Surge Media closes a $120,000 deal to buy WEGG, Rose Hill, NC (710) from Ron Benfield’s Conner Media. The 2,500-wat daytime-only station currently simulcasts on the Rose Hill, NC-licensed translator W263BE at 100.5 FM and brands itself as rhythmic AC “Surge Radio.”

Minnesota – Real Presence Radio closes a $13,000 deal to buy religious KBPG, Montevideo, MN (89.5) from American Family Association. The filing says KBPG will relay Real Presence Radio’s religious KWTL, Grand Forks, ND (1370).

Virginia – Lisa and Roger Bouldin’s Bristol Broadcasting closes a $2,000 deal to buy gospel “Rejoice 1330” WITM, Marion, VA from Maurice Gaines’ Praise and Glory Ministries. Bristol Broadcasting already owns “24 Carrot Country” WXBQ-FM, country “FM 94” WMEV-FM, and classic hits “KZ-101” WUKZ in the area.
