Language codes

Explanation of the language codes I use in my signature on usenet

Example:

    L:NL,af,da,de,en,ia,nds,no,sv,(fr,it) S:NL,en,(da,de,ia)
The letter L comes from Latin LEGERE, meaning to read. The L is used to list languages I can read, first of all the languages I can read well. The languages I can read if I really have to are listed in parentheses.

The letter S comes from Latin SCRIBERE, meaning to write. The S is used to list languages I can write, first of all the languages I can write well. The languages I can write if I really have to are listed in parentheses.

The language NL is given in uppercase to indicate that this is my native language.
