Gertjan van Noord elected as president of the ACL

Gertjan van Noord has been elected by the members of the Association for Computational Linguistics (ACL) as vice-president-elect in 2012. As a result, he has been vice president in 2013, and president of the organisation in 2014. In 2015, he is a member of the ACL executive board as past-president.

At the 2014 Annual Meeting in Baltimore, he gave the Presidential Address for an audience of more than 1000 people. At the same event, he introduced the winner of the 2014 Life-time Achievement Award, Robert L. Mercer.

The ACL is the international scientific professional organization for computational linguistics, natural language processing, and language technology. The organisation has over 2100 members worldwide. The ACL organises the ACL "Annual Meeting" - the most important conference of this research area. The official journal of the ACL is Computational Linguistics - the highly regarded longest running publication devoted exclusively to the design and analysis of natural language processing systems.

Gertjan van Noord is professor in language technology at the University of Groningen.
