Искам да кажа, че като си излязъл вече наполовина, ще бъде жалко
да се откажем от постигнатото. |
1 "I mean,"
said Rabbit, "that having got so far, it seems a pity to waste it." |

2 Christopher
Robin nodded. |

– Тогава – остава ни само едно: |
3 "Then
there's only one thing to be done," he said. |

да чакаме... докато изтънееш отново. |
4 "We shall
have to wait for you to get thin again." |
|

– Колко ще трае това чакане? – попита Пух разтревожен. |
5 "How long
does getting thin take?" asked Pooh anxiously. |

– Около една седмица, мисля. |
6 "About
a week, I should think." |
|

– Но аз не мога да седя тук цяла седмица! |
7 "But I
can't stay here for a week!" |

– Много си добре там, глупаво старо Мече! |
8 "You can
stay here all right, silly old Bear. |
|

Да не мислиш, че ще бъде лесно да те измъкнем? |
9 It's getting
you out which is so difficult." |

– Ще ти четем! – извика Заю радостно. |
10 "We'll read
to you," said Rabbit cheerfully. |

– Дано само не завали сняг – прибави той. |
11 "And I hope
it won't snow," he added. |
|

– И понеже, стари приятелю, заемаш почти половината ми къща,

12 "And I say,
old fellow, you're taking up a good deal of room in my house – |

ще имаш ли нещо против, ако използвам задните ти крака да си простирам
на тях прането? |
13 do you mind
if I use your back legs as a towel-horse? |

И без това те за нищо не ти служат сега, а на мен ще ми е много
удобно! |
14 Because, I
mean, there they are – doing nothing – and it would be very convenient
just to hang the towels on them." |

– Цяла седмица! – каза Пух тъжно. |
15 "A week!" said
Pooh gloomily. |

– А за храна? |
16 "What about
meals?" |
|

– Боя се, че няма да има храна – каза Кристофър Робин,– защото трябва
по-бързо да изтънееш. |
17 "I'm afraid
no meals," said Christopher Robin, "because of getting thin quicker.

Но ние ще ти четем. |
18 But we will
read to you." |

Мечето се опита да въздъхне, ала разбра, че не може, защото е много
натясно. |
19 Bear began
to sigh, and then found he couldn't because he was so tightly stuck;

И една сълза се отрони от окото му, когато каза: |
20 and a tear
rolled down his eye, as he said: |

– Тогава, моля ви се, четете ми някоя Ободряваща Книга, която ще
бъде помощ и утеха за едно Зазидано Мече в Голямо Притеснение. |
21 "Then would
you read a Sustaining Book, such as would help and comfort a Wedged Bear
in Great Tightness?" |

| 22 Цяла седмица
Кристофър Робин чете такава книга на Северния край на Пух,
|
22 So for a week
Christopher Robin read that sort of book at the North end of Pooh,
|
|
| 23 а на Южния
– Заю си сушеше прането. |
23 and Rabbit
hung his washing on the South end . . . |
|
| 24
Помежду им мечето чувстваше, че става все по-тънко и по-тънко.
|
24 and in between
Bear felt himself getting slenderer and slenderer. |
|

А в края на седмицата Кристофър Робин каза: – Хайде сега! |
25 And at the
end of the week Christopher Robin said, "Now!" |

| 26 Той хвана
Пух за предните лапи, |
26 So he took
hold of Pooh's front paws |

Заю хвана Кристофър Робин, |
27 and Rabbit
took hold of Christopher Robin, |
|

а всички Заюви роднини и приятели хванаха – един зад друг – Заю
|
28 and all Rabbit's
friends and relations took hold of Rabbit, |

и дружно задърпаха... |
29 and they all
pulled together.... |

Дълго се чуваше само гласът на Пух: – Ох! |
30 And for a
long time Pooh only said "Ow!" ... |

и – Ах! |
31 And "Oh!"
... |

и изведнъж се чу: „Пльок!“, като че отхвръкна тапа от бутилка. |
32 And then,
all of a sudden, he said "Pop!" just as if a cork were coming out of a
bottle. |

И Кристофър Робин, и Заю, и всички Заюви роднини и приятели се преметнаха
презглава и паднаха по гръб един върху друг... |
33 And Christopher
Robin and Rabbit and all Rabbit's friends and relations went head-over-heels
backwards . . . |

| 34 а на върха
на този куп изскочи Мечо Пух – свободен! |
34 and on the
top of them came Winnie-the-Pooh – free! |

След като поблагодари с кимване на приятелите си, той важен-важен
продължи разходката си из Гората, като си тананикаше гордо. |
35 So, with a
nod of thanks to his friends, he went on with his walk through the forest,
humming proudly to himself. |

Кристофър Робин погледна след него с обич и си каза: |
36 But, Christopher
Robin looked after him lovingly, and said to himself, |

„Мое старо, глупаво Мече!“ |
37 "Silly old
Bear!" |
