Using collective intelligence in Dutch tweets for detecting periodic events and anticipointment

`What's happening?' is the question that users of the social media platform of Twitter are asked upon posting a message. In line with this impetus, the content on Twitter provides a snapshot of real-world events that are taking place and the feelings that relate to these events. We leveraged the longitudinal data set of Dutch tweets that is continuously collected in the TwiNL framework to extract an overview of open-domain events. In this talk, I will give a summary of this approach and describe two use cases based on the extracted events: the detection of periodic events and an inquiry into the relation between positive expectation, disappointment and satisfaction in relation to these events.
