It should be noted that Linebarger is not the only one who addresses these cases; several other authors have given attention to the acceptability of NPIs in questions, in the scope of adversative predicates and temporal connectives. In fact, the pros and cons of different approaches to this part of the licensing problem have been the subject of lively debate. A full discussion of the literature falls outside the scope of this thesis; the interested reader is referred to Borkin (1971), Fauconnier (1980), Ladusaw (1980), Sánchez-Valencia (to appear), Sánchez-Valencia et al. (1996), and Van der Wouden (1994a), though this list does not exhaust the contributors.
