In the same way, the NPI zijn weerga kennen (literally: to know one's match), listed under F, has a related NPI adjective, weergaloos (matchless), in which the negative suffix -loos (-less) is obligatory; there exists no such adjective as weergavol (matchful).

It should be noted, though, that there is by no means always such a direct and exclusive relationship between negative adjectives and NPI verbs. On the one hand, adjectives derived from NPI verbs may have both negative and affirmative meanings. For example, the NPI kunnen verdragen (can stand) has corresponding negative and affirmative adjectives: ondraaglijk (unbearable) as well as draaglijk (bearable), and onverdraagzaam (intolerant) as well as verdraagzaam (forbearing).

On the other hand, there are many exclusively negative adjectives which are derived from non-polarity verbs. For example: the negative adjective onooglijk (unsightly) is derived from the non-polarity verb ogen (to look like). Yet, there exists no such adjective as ooglijk (sightly). Many similar examples can be found, for instance the exclusively negative adjective onomstotelijk (irrefutable), which is derived from the non-polarity verb omstoten (to refute), and onberispelijk (immaculate), which is derived from the non-polarity verb berispen (to rebuke).
