There are no exact figures regarding the relative frequency of the NPIs listed in Table 1.2. Such a frequency count has been carried out in another corpus, which will come up for discussion in Chapter 2. In this corpus, it was found that the two first NPIs listed as `special cases' in Table 1.2, hoeven (have to/need) and meer (anymore), outnumber the NPIs in the other categories (cf. Table 2.2).
