Before using SPSS, the number of scores per subject for the *hoeven sentences was reduced from 6 to 3, to match the number of scores for the other test sentences types.

As each subject contributed 12 responses, 3 per test sentence type, a multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) for repeated measures was first carried out to investigate the assumption of sphericity. The results showed that this assumption can be made and the use of ONEWAY was acceptable.
