Authorship Identification: The Beatles

Right! We're now going to apply what you've learned about authorship identification to settle that long-raging controversy - just how much of a 50-50 thing was the Lennon-McCartney songwriting partnership? We know that they didn't write songs together -- each was the work of one or the other Beatle -- but did Paul write more than John? Or vice versa? Well, you may not care, since one is dead and the other about to draw his old-age pension, but look at it this way, it's either the Beatles, or background literature on the American Constitution (The Federalist Papers).

So, here's what we did. First, we collected the lyrics of both Lennon and McCartney's own solo work after the group split. Then we used a model matching algorithm to determine the probable authorship of each song.
