Lewis Carroll: Przygody Alicji w Krainie Czarów

Lewis Carroll: ALICE IN WONDERLAND (1865)

Przełożył z angielskiego Robert Stiller

Polish translation by Robert Stiller

000     Rozdział I

CHAPTER I

001     W GŁĄB KRÓLICZEJ NORY

1 DOWN THE RABBIT-HOLE

002     Alicja czuła się już bardzo zmęczona tym, że siedzi obok siostry na pochyłym brzegu i nie ma nic do roboty;

2 ALICE was beginning to get very tired of sitting by her sister on the bank and of having nothing to do:

003  raz i drugi zerknęła do książki czytanej przez siostrę,

3 once or twice she had peeped into the book her sister was reading,

4 but it had no pictures or conversations in it,

5 'and what is the use of a book,' thought Alice, 'without pictures or conversations?'

006     Zastanawiała się więc w myśli

6 So she was considering, in her own mind

7 (as well as she could, for the hot day made her feel very sleepy and stupid),

8 whether the pleasure of making a daisy-chain would be worth the trouble of getting up and picking the daisies,

009  kiedy nagle przebiegł obok niej biały królik o różowych oczach.

9 when suddenly a White Rabbit with pink eyes ran close by her.

10 There was nothing so very remarkable in that;

11 nor did Alice think it so very much out of the way

012  że usłyszała, jak Królik mówi do siebie:

12 to hear the Rabbit say to itself

013  „O Boże! o Boże! Spóźnię się!”

13 'Oh dear! Oh dear! I shall be too late!'

014  (kiedy potem sobie to przemyślała, przyszło jej do głowy,

14 (when she thought it over afterwards it occurred to her

015  że powinna była się zdziwić,

15 that she ought to have wondered at this,

016  ale wtedy wydawało się to zupełnie naturalne);

16 but at the time it all seemed quite natural);

017  dopiero kiedy Królik ni mniej, ni więcej, tylko wyjął z kieszeni w kamizelce zegarek

17 but, when the Rabbit actually took a watch out of its waistcoat-pocket,

018  i spojrzał na niego, a następnie popędził dalej,

18 and looked at it, and then hurried on,

019  Alicja zerwała się, bo błysnęła jej myśl,

19 Alice started to her feet, for it flashed across her mind

020  że nigdy jeszcze nie widziała królika, który by miał kieszeń w kamizelce albo zegarek, żeby go z niej mógł wyjąć,

20 that she had never before seen a rabbit with either a waistcoat-pocket, or a watch to take out of it,

21 and burning with curiosity, she ran across the field after it,

22 and fortunately was just in time to see it pop down a large rabbit-hole under the hedge.

023     Jeszcze chwilka i Alicja wskoczyła za nim,

23 In another moment down went Alice after it,

24 never once considering how in the world she was to get out again.

025     Nora biegła kawałek prosto jak tunel, a potem nagle poszła w dół,

25 The rabbit-hole went straight on like a tunnel for some way, and then dipped suddenly down,

26 so suddenly that Alice had not a moment to think about stopping herself

27 before she found herself falling down what seemed to be a very deep well.

28 Either the well was very deep, or she fell very slowly,

029  bo lecąc w dół miała mnóstwo czasu, żeby się rozglądać

29 for she had plenty of time as she went down to look about her,

030  i zastanawiać, co będzie dalej.

30 and to wonder what was going to happen next.

31 First, she tried to look down and make out what she was coming to,

032  ale było zbyt ciemno, żeby coś dojrzeć;

32 but it was too dark to see anything:

033  potem zaczęła się rozglądać po ścianach studni i spostrzegła,

33 then she looked at the sides of the well, and noticed

034  że są one pełne szaf i półek na książki;

34 that they were filled with cupboards and book-shelves:

035  tu i ówdzie widziała obrazy i mapy wiszące na kołkach.

35 here and there she saw maps and pictures hung upon pegs.
