Methodological background
Writing an essay about American history in Norway is a real challenge. First of all literature about American history has no priority in Norwagian libraries, especially at the University of Bergen. To compensate I started searching the Internet but using web-resources showed little successful. The quality was rather different from source to source.An important resource was the state census, especially the 1850 census. Earlier state censuses were unavailable as Texas first joined the United States in 1848. This may be a weak point in my essay. It would have been desirably and probably helped my essay, if earlier censuses for the state Texas had been available. At the same time my issue was maybe a little bit too narrow. Texas in the beginning of the nineteenth century, was perhaps not a good subject regarding the opportunities of getting good bibliographic material.
