Conclusion

The Velvet Underground did reflect their own time. The Sixties were a period when particularly the young generation was in motion. They were trying to get rid of the stagnation that existed in the American society at that time.
They did it by going against the authorities and putting alternative lifestyles on the map. The combination of The Velvets and Andy Warhol was certainly a part of this.

The Velvet Underground was also ahead of its time in many ways. When it comes to the music and lyrics they were going in their very own new direction. Also the attitude they were showing to the environment around them stood for something new.
They had an paranoid aggressiveness over them, which later on has been picked up by other sub-cultures later on like for example punks.
