Petra Hendriks

I am a Professor of Semantics and Cognition at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Groningen, and head of the Semantics and Cognition group. Furthermore, I am the scientific director of the Center for Language and Cognition Groningen (CLCG) at the University of Groningen.

My research interests are in semantics and pragmatics and their relation with cognition. From 2007 to 2014, I led a research project on asymmetries between comprehension and production in child language, funded by a Vici grant (M€ 1.25) from the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO). Currently, I collaborate with colleagues from psychiatry, psychology and artificial intelligence in a project on language learning in children and young adults diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (NWO Open Competition L, 2025-2030).

I am an elected member of the Royal Holland Society of Sciences and Humanities (KHMW), the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW), and the Academia Europaea.
